It as been another very busy week in Primary 1.

In the playroom we have been focused on the world of work and developing the young workforce.

Children have had the opportunity to participate in different job roles such as construction workers, florists, gardeners and running a cafe, and many more more.

In addition to this, some children have been eager to share their solo talks about their favourite animal. Some amazing posters have been brought and fantastic facts have been shared.

On Monday, we had a visit from the football coach from the Brunswick Centre who was teaching us lots of ball skills. We were dribbling and running and learning to control the ball.

We have learned that flamingos stand on one leg, penguins are fluffy when they are born, cats have pink paws and the name Singh means lion in Punjabi. So we have been able to learn a word from other languages too. The children have been very excited, well organised with fabulous posters and confident as they have spoken to the whole class to share facts and the reason why the animal is their favourite.

We can’t wait to see and hear about everyone else’s favourite animal next week.

This week primary 1a were continuing to develop their symmetry skills by designing symmetrical pizzas and butterflies.

Writing had them creating instructions for cleaning their teeth. They began by drawing pictures to demonstrate the actions and followed this by writing a sentence to explain what to do. Everyone should now have lovely clean teeth.

We continued to learn about our emotions and were able to assign colours to a variety of emotions such as yellow for happy, blue for sad and green for jealous. We used the story Elmer, about a patchwork elephant, as inspiration and used some of the colours we discussed to create our own animals and jungle picture.

We had a visit from our music tutor who brought a range of instruments for the children to play along with the tunes Carwash and Under the Sea. This was fun and exciting.

Despite the heat and sun shining, Primary 1 have had another successful week of learning.

Following on from making a jeely piece last week, they have been writing instructions explaining the steps that they took to make their sandwich.

In numeracy, they have been learning to half a number which some of us have been finding a bit tricky but we are practicing and getting better.

It has been exciting reading the responses which we received from our homework task asking questions about life in the past. We had fun and laughs watching some of the television programmes and listening to the music (especially when Mrs Scott and the support of learning workers were singing along). A big thank you to everyone who shared their experiences of growing up in the old day!

As always Primary 1 have had another amazing week of learning.

They have been learning about halves in maths and put this knowledge into practice when they were cutting their Jeely pieces.

To celebrate the 850th birthday of Glasgow, the children created art work based on the Glasgow City Tour bus. They sang along to the Jeely Piece Song after making a Jeely sandwich. It was messy and sticky but there was a lot of smiles and laughter.

As a homework task following our reading for the story Stuck, the children were asked to design and build a kite. Some fantastic kites were brought to school and we were lucky to have a breezy afternoon on Friday so we were able to test them. Lots of running around and teamwork managed to get the kites in the air. Thank you everyone for supporting the children with this activity, the children had a great time flying them and I am sure also making them. The creativity and variety of ideas for the kites was brilliant.

It has been lovely being back after Spring Break. The children have all been eager to learn and excited to share their holiday experiences.

We have started back into our routines and had a lot of fun.

We have been reading the story Stuck by Oliver Jeffers and predicting what we thought happened next. The story made us laugh and no-one knew what was going to happen because Floyd does lots of strange things. We are still working on some artwork to go with the story.

We pretended to be pirates when we were learning co-ordinates. Co-ordinates helped us to find our buried treasure.

We continued with our treasure hunt as we did our revision sums which were hidden around the class.

We enjoyed the good weather by taking our learning outdoors and let our imagination go wild as we played with empty boxes.

Ask the children to share their learning experience’s about what they have being doing this week.

Another wonderful week in primary 1.

We have been finishing lots of revision for number, taken our learning outdoors as we explored new equipment and worked as a team to build and play.

In literacy, we made Wanted posters for the Easter Bunny who was accused of stealing Easter eggs.

Even the teachers had fun on April Fool’s Day when they told the children that they needed to cut the grass with scissors if they wanted to play on it. The children were excited to do it and even wanted to do it again…still wondering who was pranked .

We have finally made it to the end of a great term and we would like to wish you all a happy Easter and have a great holiday.
