Term 2

During term 2, we will be reading Theresa Breslin’s novel ‘Divided City’, which is a story set in Glasgow and tackles the issue of sectarianism and racism in society. We will also be participating in several workshops led by representatives from Anti-sectarianism charities. Alongside this novel, we will also be reading Mary Shelly’s novel Frankenstein and will complete literacy tasks to demonstrate our comprehension skills. We will be continuing to learn about different  literacy devices to up-level our writing and we will continue practising our spelling and handwriting.

In Maths, we will be developing our knowledge of money concepts to help us become more financially aware and to make good choices in future. We will learn this skills in a range of ‘real life’concepts, whilst also securing our understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will continue developing our ability to solve calculations mentally through mental maths and ‘Ninja Maths’ challenges.

In PE, we will be learning badminton skills, focusing on shot patterns and our ability to work with a partner to provide constructive feedback on how to perform a particular shot. We will participate in games in preparation for Badminton competitions and we will learn about different roles such as line judge, net judge and score keepers.

In Science, we will be learning about the human body and process of the respiratory and circulatory system. We will also be learning about the effects of substance abuse has on the human body.

In Health and Wellbeing, we will be learning about First Aid and participating in role play sessions about what to do in an emergency situation. We will also be participating in the ‘We Eat Elephants’ program, exploring and discussing the importance of a positive mental health.

Our topic in term 1 focusses on the body systems and we will explore how the body moves, works and grows.

Throughout this term, we will also participate in a series of lessons about ‘Developing the Young Persons Workforce’, with the idea that pupils should begin to think about their future and their subject choices in High School.

PE Days

Our PE days are on Monday and Thursday this term. Pupils should remember to bring a PE kit on both days.

Homework Days

Homework is issued on a Monday and should be returned on a Thursday.

Learning Journeys

Pupils complete a ‘daily tweet’ about their learning each day in their Learning Journeys. Pupils are asked to take Learning Journeys home on a Thursday. Parents and guardian are encouraged to sign Learning Journeys and any comments about their child’s learning are welcome.

Achievement and celebrations

We celebrate a ‘Worker of the Week’ and a ‘Pupil of the Week’ to recognise those children who go above and beyond in the classroom and throughout the school. These children are invited to attend ‘Hot Chocolate Fridays’ with a member of Senior Management Team on a Friday afternoon.

Spanish

During this term we will be developing our Spanish skills. We will be learning about Spanish culture by researching cities in Spain.  We will be looking at famous landmarks and buildings and finding out what tourist attraction there are.  We will continue to consolidate our Spanish vocabulary, we will be learning Spanish words to describe our own city and famous tourist attractions.
