Pirie Park Primary School

Respect, Learning, Kindness, Friendship, Trust

Welcome to primary 1b!

The children are working very hard this term learning songs for the nativity. The dress rehearsal of the nativity will be on the morning of Monday 9th December. We will have our full performances on Wednesday 11th December in the morning and afternoon.

This term our topic is winter, so our maths and language learning will be linked to winter. We will also continue our outdoor learning.

Primary 1 are also lucky to be visited by a music specialist from the Youth Music Initiative. Children will get specialist music education fortnightly.

For homework, please make sure that your child is practising their sounds and reading books every night. This will really help your child with their learning in class.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/3-5-years/counting – this link contains fun maths games which will help develop your child’s numeracy skills. These can be accessed by clicking on the above website address.

At Pirie Park Primary, we recognise achievement. Therefore, children are able to gain awards for good behaviour and hard work at assemblies. As well as this, we all have a recognition board used in class. Whenever your child is showing good behaviour, they will be rewarded by being added to the recognition board. We also have hot chocolate Fridays for two children a week who behave well and work hard!

Children at Pirie Park are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to school. This is to promote good dietary habits, which hopefully will be held throughout your child’s life.

Gym will be on a Monday and Tuesday so make sure that your child has their gym kit in school on these days.

During this term we will be developing our Spanish skills. We will be learning about how Christmas is celebrated in Spain.  We will be learning some Spanish words including days of the week and months of the year.
