P6BN Termly Newsletter

This newsletter is to let you know what your child will be learning about for the rest of this term before Christmas.

Literacy

We will be finishing off our Novel Study on the book ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom’ by Louis Sachar. The children have really enjoyed this book and are looking forward to the next novel which will be another Louis Sachar book called ‘Holes’.

For writing this term our focus is on setting writing so we have taken the inspiration from Halloween to write a detailed description of a spooky place: a graveyard or a haunted house for example. During this process we will focus each week on a different aspect of writing that will bring the writing to life like similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia and alliteration as well as improving our use of adjectives and adverbs.

In our Listening and Talking lessons we will focus on our topic, ‘The 1960s’, to help provide discussion and debate points.

Numeracy

In Numeracy we will be busy covering addition, subtraction, multiplying and dividing and then applying that knowledge to Fractions and Decimals, Time, Measure, as well as Angles and Shape. Mrs Nickson will be covering more Problem Solving and Mrs Tumulty will be teaching Patterns and Relationships.

Health and Well Being

Both Mrs Nickson and Mrs Tumulty will be covering different aspects of Health and Well-being and Mrs McGillivary will continue with PE which will be a focus on skills used in Hockey. Please remember to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor clothing as our PE lessons still have to take place outdoors.

Topic

As mentioned our Topic will be ‘The 1960s’. In this topic we will look at fashion, music and culture within Scotland as well as the Civil Rights movement and the Lunar Landings.
