PLAYGROUND IMPROVEMENTS – GROUNDS FOR LEARNING

Playground-Grounds for Learning

The school was very pleased to receive a visit from Stephen Moizier of Grounds for Learning in May 2017, following the successful application for a visit by Annette Gordon, a parent at the school and a local PE teacher. Stephen met with pupils, staff and parents to discuss ideas around how the school playground could be improved to support outdoor learning experiences for the children.

In June 2017, Stephen produced a report looking at short, medium and longer term plans, with ideas and advice on how to achieve these. Here are some pictures of ideas suggested by Stephen.

The Parent Council has set up a Working Group to move forward with some of these ideas. The first phase is now underway, putting together a collection of moveable, un-fixed objects, such as mud kitchens, music walls and using tyres to create points of interest for the children to play in and around.

The next phase will be considering more permanent structures and painting. The Parent Council is working in collaboration with the Head Teacher, staff and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Education and Technical services departments to make progress on this.

If you would like to help with the plans to improve the playground, please contact Annette Gordon via the school office.
