On our third attempt, we were able to go ahead today with our Sports Day this morning at the Stornoway running track. Thank you to all the parents and other families who attended to cheer on the children in their races.
The Parent Council are pleased to confirm that they will be holding their annual Summer Fun Day on Saturday 20th June 2015.
Can you help?
The Parent Council are looking for a small group of volunteers to join the Fun Day organising group. If you can offer a few hours of your time to help plan and organise the event, there is return slip is available in the ‘School Documents’ page of the website or you can contact them directly through their Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sgoil-a-Bhac-Parent-Council/1046880438673516
The pupils and staff of Sgoil a’ Bhac had great fun marking Red Nose Day today. As well as selling red noses and dressing up for the day, we held a bake sale and had a Staff v Pupils football match. The staff won the day with a close 5-4 victory!
Thank you to everyone who contributed time, effort, baking and money today. We’ll announce a total early next week wen all the money has been counted.
Today Sgoil a’ Bhac canteen celebrated International School Meal Day with a special menu with an Indian theme. The menu included samosas, beef curry, pilau rice and naan breads. As well as preparing this delicious international feast, our catering team got into the spirit of the day by dressing up for the day. We’d like to thank our canteen staff and all the children who enjoyed our special feast.
Last Friday, the school held a special ‘Tartan Day’ to raise funds for Coisir Og a’ Bhac to help them fund their trip to the upcoming National Mod in Inverness. The day raised an excellent £172.76 through the donations of children wearing tartan and a treasure hunt game.
We’d like to wish the choir the very best of luck in their Mod competitions.
The school is currently running a consultation with all pupils, parents, staff and other stakeholders about making some small changes to the school day. The revised structure would be as follows:
Session One – 8.50am to 10.30am
Morning Break – 10.30am to 10.50am
Session Two – 10.50am to 12.30pm
Lunch Break – 12.30pm to 1.20pm
Session Three – 1.20pm to 3.00pm
The reasons and impact of this proposed change are explained in the consultation survey. It can be completed online through the ‘Consultations’ link on our website or on paper using the document below.

The password for the survey has been notified to parents by letter today.
Sgoil a’ Bhac welcomed back its teaching staff last Monday and the pupils will be joining us for the first day of term on Friday 15th August from 8.40am.
We are looking forward to welcoming our new P1 intake on Friday morning too. The first day for P1’s will be a half-day, ending at 12.15pm. From Monday 18th August, P1s will be in full-time.
If parents have any questions or queries ahead of the school re-opening, the school office will be manned on Thursday 14th August from 12.00pm to 4.00pm. Any parents who have not yet collected uniform orders can do so on Thursday.
We will be holding a non-uniform day on Friday 28th February to help raise funds for our football team to travel to Dundee to compete in the North Finals of the Scottish Soccer Sevens Championship. We would like to ask that any pupils coming in to school without uniform on that day make a donation to the trip fund. In addition to the non-uniform day, we hope to have a bake stall operating.
Sgoil a’ Bhac will be representing the Western Isles in this competition and will be playing against teams from Inverness, Aberdeen, Perth, Dundee and Skye. The finals will be held at Dundee University on Thursday 20th March. It’s a major achievement for our team to have qualified for this stage of the competition and we want to support them by helping with fundraising for some of the costs.
