Consultation on Changing the School Day

The school is currently running a consultation with all pupils, parents, staff and other stakeholders about making some small changes to the school day. The revised structure would be as follows:

Session One – 8.50am to 10.30am
Morning Break – 10.30am to 10.50am
Session Two – 10.50am to 12.30pm
Lunch Break – 12.30pm to 1.20pm
Session Three – 1.20pm to 3.00pm

The reasons and impact of this proposed change are explained in the consultation survey. It can be completed online through the ‘Consultations’ link on our website or on paper using the document below.

Welcome to our new P1s

Our new pupils in Gaelic and English P1 are approaching the end of their first full week in school. We are delighted to welcome them all to Sgoil a’ Bhac and wish them the best as they embark on their primary school years.

Parent Council Meeting

The next meeting of Sgoil a’ Bhac Parent Council has been changed to Tuesday 16th September at 7.30pm in the school. The meeting scheduled and advertised for Tuesday 26th August is cancelled. The Parent Council extends a warm welcome to all parents of Sgoil a’ Bhac and Sgoil Araich Loch a Tuath to attend.

School Re-opens Soon!

Sgoil a’ Bhac welcomed back its teaching staff last Monday and the pupils will be joining us for the first day of term on Friday 15th August from 8.40am.

We are looking forward to welcoming our new P1 intake on Friday morning too. The first day for P1’s will be a half-day, ending at 12.15pm. From Monday 18th August, P1s will be in full-time.

If parents have any questions or queries ahead of the school re-opening, the school office will be manned on Thursday 14th August from 12.00pm to 4.00pm. Any parents who have not yet collected uniform orders can do so on Thursday.

Sgoil a’ Bhac Prizegiving 2014

The 2013-14 session at Sgoil a’ Bhac closed last Friday with our annual prize-giving. We were delighted to welcome a large number of parents, families and friends to the ceremony to see the children receive their awards. As well as presenting the prizes, our special guest, Rev. Calum Iain Macleod, gave an inspirational address to the audience and our P7 leavers.

The pupils of Sgoil a’ Bhac have, once again, had an excellent showing at the local Lewis Mod. We had groups and individuals competing in a broad range of competitions for both native and learner Gaelic speakers. We’ve provided a full list of our prizewinners for 2014 below.

Parent Council Fun Day 2014

The Parent Council held their first community fun day last Saturday. The event was very well received and there was an excellent turnout. The Parent Council would like to thank all the supporters and volunteers who helped to make the event such a success. Thanks also to everyone who came along and enjoyed the activities and events on the day.

TSB Sponsorship

Sgoil a’ Bhac recently received a sponsorship contribution of £165.60 from TSB towards our travel costs for the North of Scotland Soccer Sevens tournament our team participated in last term. Our team was representing the Western Isles in this national event, which was held in Dundee. As main sponsors of the competition, the TSB provided financial support to the participating schools to help with the expense of travel.Image courtesy of John Maclean Photography

SQR and SIP

In June of each year, the school produces two important documents. The Standards and Quality Report (SQR), reports on the schools progress, attainment and attendance for the current session 2013-2014. The School Improvement Plan sets out the school’s development aims and improvement strategies for the coming year 2014-2015.

CNES Parent & Carer Survey

The Department of Education and Children’s Services are conducting a survey of all parents and carers across the authority in June 2014. The closing date for submissions is Friday 27th June. Attached below is a letter from the Director explaining how to access the survey online. A PDF version of the survey is also attached for paper submission.
