Congratulations to our achievers for the month of October. They were awarded their certificates at the school assembly last Friday,
Apologies for the poor quality of the photo!
Our telephone and internet provision has been restored and parents can now contact the school office by the usual telephone number and e-mail address.
Please Note: The back-up telephone is only manned when the main line is unavailable. Calls to that number are not answered at other times.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to a power cut yesterday, the school has lost its main phoneline and all internet access. We are working to restore these services but, in the meantime, the school office can be contacted on our back-up number 820866. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
We would like to warmly welcome back all our pupils and staff today for the beginning of our second term at Sgoil a’ Bhac.
A newsletter with dates and information relating to activities this term has been added to the ‘Letters’ page of our website.
The school closed today for the October holidays. It will reopen for teachers on Tuesday 21st October and for pupils on Thursday 23rd.
We’d like to wish all children, parents and families a very happy holiday and we’d also like to offer the best of luck to al our pupils who will be competing in the National Mod in Inverness.
Sgoil a’ Bhac had four teams in the recent Sports Festival Uni-Hoc Competition, an event that saw 42 teams from schools across Lewis and Harris go head-to-head over three weeks of matches. Two of our teams, the ‘Back Guardians’ and ‘Back Attack’ won through to last night’s finals. After an evening of close competition, Back Guardians finished third overall and Back Attack were ninth, an excellent achievement.
Well done to all the children in our four teams who took part and thank you to the parents who transported pupils and came along to support them.

Last Friday, the school held a special ‘Tartan Day’ to raise funds for Coisir Og a’ Bhac to help them fund their trip to the upcoming National Mod in Inverness. The day raised an excellent £172.76 through the donations of children wearing tartan and a treasure hunt game.
We’d like to wish the choir the very best of luck in their Mod competitions.
Ellie Macdonald and Erin Macleod from GP7 organised a special bake sale to raise funds to support a Cerebral Palsy charity. They worked very hard to prepare their baking and it was very well received by the pupils when they held their sale at break-time today. They raised an hugely impressive £180.00 for their charity.
At our assembly today, we awarded certificates to our September achievers. Very well done to all of them. Certificates were awarded for good reading, hard work, being a good friend, always helping others, improvement in maths and language and speaking good Gaelic.
The old Sgoil Araich building at the front of the school is being used today as a polling station for the Back area in the Independence Referendum. This may result in parking and traffic at the front of the school being much busier than usual at drop-off and pick-up times. We would like to apologise to parents for any inconvenience this may cause. Both the Sgoil Araich and the school are open as normal today.
