We are back and raring to go!

ready-set-goThe boys and girls are back to school and they are keen and eager and ready to start their learning.  Mrs McKay and all of the staff are thrilled to be back and what a joy it is to see all of our pupils so smartly dressed in their school uniforms!

The website committee will be keeping our website up to date so keep your eyes peeled for events and exciting news!

The End of Another Year

Well we are nearly at the end of another year! The staff and children have had another busy year and there have been lots of memories made during the last 11 months.  We have welcomed some new pupils and said ‘keep in touch!’ to others.  We have also waved a sad farewell to Miss Dawson-Bowman, Mrs Roy and of course, Miss Bradley.

The staff would like to wish all the pupils and their families a fantastic summer break and we look forward to seeing lots of familiar (and new!) faces on Monday 15th August 2016.

We hope to see you at the Church tomorrow for our ‘Achievements Celebration’ which will be our final, fond farewell to our Primary 7s.

The service will start at 12 o’clock (no lunches in school tomorrow).

Happy Holidays everyone!  Here are some highlights from 2015/2016!

Staff vs Pupils Netball Match

DSCN3370So it was our annual Staff vs P7 pupils netball match today and the crowds turned out in their masses to support the Primary 7s (and teachers).

It was a tough match and there was some dirty play and fighting talk.  I hope the Primary 6s are getting in some early training!

Adieu, adieu, adieu. Remember me. (Hamlet Act I Scene V)

IMG_0186The children exceeded our expectations this week with their performances of ‘400 Years Dead’ celebrating the life and work of William Shakespeare.  For the past three months, children have been studying the scripts and language of Shakespeare and our thanks go to Zoe Brooks and actors Jenni Green and Charles Donnelly, who have worked tirelessly with the children to bring these stories to life.

Primary 1-3 performed ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’,  Primary 4/5  ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and Primary 6/7 brought Hamlet and MacBeth to the stage.

We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did and we would like to say a huge thank you to Bazooka Arts (Zoe), Jenni and Charlie for their collaboration.  Also to Matt who has been working hard behind the scenes to ensure the staging and setting matched the quality of our of actors and actresses.

If you would like to order a copy of the DVD at £10 please contact the school, if you have not already!

Health Week Comes to a Sporty End

DSC00317DSC00314The boys and girls took part in a Relax Kids session with Vicky Mulholland today.  The children learned about some techniques which they can use to keep themselves calm and relaxed when they may feel stressed, or just need some time to chill out.

Health Week Continues with Fitness and Nutrition

The boys and girls are continuing their Health Week activities and have been learning about food and fitness.

DSC00276 DSC00281 DSC00283 DSC00285 DSC00282 DSC00277“We went to Tesco and we learned about the journey food makes to the food to the shelves.  We also talked to the workers and they let us in to the big freezer!  We held some fish at the fish counter which was cool!”   Ashley P6

“We did a sponsored run outside with Mrs Orr.  They measured out 200m and we could run as many laps as we wanted.  I did 26 laps so that was over 2k.  The money we raised is going to ‘Save the Children’ to help children who are not as lucky as us.”  Mary P6DSC00267 DSC00271 DSC00272 DSC00271 DSC00266 DSC00263

“Kilmarnock Football Club” came to see us and we learned some football skills and played a game in 4 teams.  We then went into the hall and learned all about water and how it is good for your bones and your health.  It helps the flow of oxygen to through your body too.”  Dylan P6DSCN3163 DSCN3164 DSCN3169 DSCN3165

Health week gets off to Great Start!

DSCN3122Mrs Crawford has been busy planning and preparing another wonderful health week for the boys and girls of Uplawmoor Primary.  It kicked off today with Paul, the chef from the Uplawmoor Hotel and another Paul, the chef from the Travellers Rest.

The Primary 7s worked as their sous chefs and were divided into team Yellow Peppers, and team Red Tomatoes.  The rest of the children watched the chefs chop, boil, stir, mix and dish up some fantastic plates of food.

In the end, the Red Tomatoes won the votes with Paul’s Nachos, Pizza and Eton Mess dishes.  Paul from the Uplawmoor hotel was pipped at the post with his delicious steak salad, fruit cocktail and chocolate covered strawberries.  Thank you so much to both chefs for taking time out of their day to come and work with the children.  We had a wonderful time watching you cook, tasting your food and you have certainly inspired some of our pupils to become chefs when they are older!

Uplawmoor Gala Day Design Competition

Thank you to Sheila and Lorna who came to Uplawmoor Primary today to judge the Uplawmoor Gala Day art competition.

After much deliberation, the judges chose Mhairi Carslaw’s design as the winning image and her artwork will feature on the front cover of the program.

The brief was to incorporate the theme of Shakespeare, so Mhairi (Primary 5) decided draw a portrait of William Shakespeare himself.

The Gala Day,  will be on Saturday 11th June from 1pm – 4pm and there will be lots of fun and games!  The program costs £2 which will go towards our school fund.

Congratulations Mhairi and we look forward to buying your program this week!

Over and Out!

imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageSo, our time at Broomlee is coming to an end. We have had our breakfast and we are completing our final activities before lunch. We hope to be back at school around 3.30pm after dropping off our friends at Crookfur.

We’ve had a wonderful week and have made some lifelong friends. I would personally like to say it has been an absolute pleasure spending the week with Josh, Dean, Amy, Lauren, Emma and Emily. They have made me very proud to have been their teacher and it has been a wonderful way to end their primary school journey.

Outdoor Pursuits

The P7s have been busy working with their new friends to build their confidence and face their fears! Emma has been been trusting her leader on a blind trail, Amy and Emily have been climbing an inclined log and Lauren has relied on the support of her new friends to tackle the ‘Mohawk walk’.  Dean and Josh have been learning about safety in archery and we have all come together at supper time to reflect on our outdoor learning experiences whilst writing up our John Muir journals.

What will tomorrow bring?!

Off to a Good Start

So, we arrived safe and sound and P7s have been busy finding old friends and meeting new ones! So far there has been tree climbing, orienteering, crate stacking and team building. The food is great and there’s plenty of it! The dorms are comfy and we all had a good night’s sleep after a day of fresh air and exploring. The weather has been kind to us so far,  so let’s keep our fingers crossed for more dry weather!
