Earth Day

The Eco-Committee spoke to the girls and boys today about Earth Day which takes place on Saturday.Ā  Earth Day is an annual event whichĀ encourages us to think about protecting and saving our environment.Ā  Between the hour of 8.30pm and 9.30pm we should do our best to switch off any electrical appliances to save as much energy as we possibly can.

Painting like Michelangelo

DSCN1065By Amy Cupples

Primary 6/7 are studying the work of Michelangelo.Ā  The childrenĀ sketched their versions of the famous hands of God and AdamĀ from ‘The Creation of Adam’.

We thenĀ had experience of how Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling inĀ Rome. To reach the chapel’s ceiling, Michelangelo designed his own scaffold, a flat wooden platform on brackets built out from holes in the wall near the top of the windows, rather than being built up from the floor.Ā  He mainly painted in a standing position, however, we decided to sketch some of his work as if we were 60ft in the air.Ā Ā  We stuck a piece of paperĀ on the bottom of a table.Ā  We all found this activity very hard but some of us mastered it. Here are some pictures of the art work.

Solar Eclipse

By Amy Cupples P6DSCN1065

As you have probablyĀ heard there was a solar eclipseĀ which took place today.Ā Ā An ‘eclipse’Ā  is when the Moon comes between the Sun andĀ the Earth which make some parts of the world go dark.1

We all went out to the playground with our solar eclipse viewers and watched the moon eclipse the sun.Ā  It was really fascinating to watch this happen.Ā  The last majorĀ eclipse took placeĀ  in 1999 and then next one won’t happen until 2026!

Look out for our very own youngĀ  Robert B….Black!
