Comic Book Club

Huzzah! Comic Book Club will be making a triumphant return this year with even more superhero action.

If you are interesting in any of the following – comic books, graphic novels, manga, anime, horror, fantasy, science-fiction, video games, and just all round general geekery – then comic book club is right for you.

We are a nice wee bunch who are always looking for new members. If you’re thinking about joining the Justice League of Mearns Castle, pop along to room B8 in the English corridor every Wednesday for fun, food and fighting the forces of evil. Can’t wait to see you all there.

Congratulation to our Chess Club

Congratulations to members of the Junior Chess Team for winning the Glasgow Schools Chess Association Junior League.  This is a terrific achievement since it is the first time that the players have entered the league or indeed played together.  During the season, the players have successfully competed against various secondary schools in the Glasgow area, producing decisive victories as well as nail-biting finishes against the clock.  The Junior League shield and medals will be presented to our players soon.

The Intermediate Chess Team has also been competing in their respective league, the Glasgow Schools Chess Association Intermediate League.  There are a number of matches remaining in this league with the last round of matches scheduled for the end of May.  Our players have produced some excellent match play, recently defeating Smithycroft School, and should be commended on the fact that they are often competing against players who are several years older, with this league open to pupils up to S4.

Well done to all our players:

S1 – Aidan Causer, Fraser Clarke, Guy Cowan, Colin Howie, Rory McFadzean and Fraser Scott

S2 – James Howard, Greig McKay and Lawrence Ng

Both teams show great promise for the future and look set to build on their success next year.

The club meets every Thursday at lunchtime.  New members are always welcome.
