SDS – virtual Meet the Expert sessions

As part of the My World of Work Live programme, SDS are offering virtual Meet the Expert sessions for young people.
Experts from a range of sectors are taking part in the 40-minute sessions where young people will get the chance to gain valuable insight to the role.

Here’s a list of what’s coming up:
• 17 March 2021 – Virtual Meet the Expert: Fife Fabrication Ltd, Engineering Services – Hear from Managing Director John (who started off as an apprentice) and current Modern Apprentice, Hannah.
• 18 March 2021- Virtual Meet The Expert – Orbex – Space industries – Learn all about the exciting opportunities in Scotland in the space industry! Could you be working on launching satellites in the future?
• 23 March 2021 – Virtual Meet the Expert: Investment 20/20, Aberdeen Standard Investments and Franklin Templeton Learn more about Investment Management and ask our experts about their day to day tasks.
• 25 March 2021 – Virtual Meet the Expert – NHS – Healthcare Support Worker – Learn more about this vital role and ask our experts on how their roles support all aspects of the healthcare system.

University of Aberdeen Articulation Week: Articulation Information Event for Schools
Wednesday 25th November
From 23-27 November the University will make information and engagement opportunities available focusing on the pathways into a degree programme from an HNC or HND.

As part of this programme of events the Access & Articulation Team have organised a 1 hour presentation and Q&A session for school pupils in S4-6 and their parents/guardians that will focus on Articulation – how it works and the opportunities that are available.

This session will take place between 6.30pm-7.30pm on Wednesday 25th of November.

HSBC UK – Investing in futures in Scotland

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a real sense of confusion and uncertainty for students, with a question mark over the employment market and future employment prospects.

To counter this, the Early Careers team at HSBC have created a series of bite-sized virtual events designed to give back confidence on employment prospects, mythbust common recruitment misconceptions and target key employability skills to give you an advantage when looking for a career.

Ada Scotland Festival

Join us for the launch of the Ada Scotland Festival – a series of online events focused on addressing gender imbalance in Computing Science.

Launch Event

At this launch event, the organisers will talk about what they hope to achieve with the Festival and we’ll hear from dressCode founder Toni Scullion on why addressing the gender gap in Computing Science is so important. Then, we’ll have a Q&A session with two of Barclays’ Software Engineering Graduate Apprentices.

We will also kick off a number of exciting competitions, featuring some great prizes courtesy of our brilliant supporters.

The event is open to pupils, teachers, parents, and anyone else with an interest in addressing gender imbalance in Computing Science education, and the tech sector more widely.
