Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships

Congratulations to all the runners who took part on Saturday at a very windy Irvine! All runners competed exceptionally well with some truly outstanding performances against the best runners in the country.

Special mention must go to Nikki Miller who cam second in the Girls’ Group C race and Holly Still who came 4th in the Girls’ Group B race.

Both girls have now been chosen to represent Scotland in the forthcoming Home International in Bolton on the 22nd March. Congratulations to both girls.

MCHS Curlers have played their qualifiers for the Scottish Schools Competition and won 2 out of 3 games. They have now qualified for the finals at Murrayfield ice rink on 14-16th March.

Well done to Carolyn Baird, James Strang and Mairi and Heather McDonald. They all played really well and the parent coaches tell me they were very proud of their team.

Good luck in the finals!

Just a reminder that the 4th match will be played this Friday after school.  Spectators are welcome, so please come along and support your team.

A reminder that due to prelim exams the badminton club will not run on the next three Tuesdays (28/1/14, 4/02/14 & 11/02/14).

We will start again on Tuesday 18th February.

Congratulations to Owen and Zak Vinter, Kate Taylor and Keri Anderson who all skied incredibly well working together as a team to win the Scottish Schools Autumn Dual Slalom.

Have you ever thought of trying curling? It’s a great sport, good fun and we Scots are amongst the best in the world! If you fancy giving it a try, there are free taster sessions at Braehead during November. If interested, please see Mrs Dempster, Lab A5.

On Friday night at Glasgow Ski Centre the 2013 SSSA Dual Slalom Series, were held.

MCHS had two teams entered in the experienced secondary category and all racers skied exceptionally well. This was the last qualifier of the series which has been run at 8 venues right across Scotland including Aberdeen, Aviemore and Edinburgh and engaging more than 500 skiers. MCHS A team won the event and MCHS B team were the runners up.

Are you a girl? Do you like football? Come along to PE on a Thursday lunchtime and play some fun games. Open to all year groups.

Do you like tables? Do you like Tennis? What about playing tennis ON a table?

Table Tennis @ MCHS starts on Thursday the 19th of September in the New Gym. All you need to do is change into your trainers and swap your shirt for a T-shirt. Eat your lunch before you come along so you don’t get crumbs on our tables.

Everyone is welcome – the club would especially encourage absolute beginners to come

A reminder to all pupils that there is a lunch time netball club open to all pupils.  It runs on a Thursday. Any one interested please come along. Remember full PE kit and a packed lunch with water/juice.

Any athletes wishing to compete in the Scottish Schools Road Relays on Saturday 9th November must see Mr Macfarlane (Personal Development) before Wednesday 9th October.

There will be a first year girls’ and boys’ team as well as a Medley Girls’ and Boys’ team (two under 15/ two over 15 athletes).

Andrew Mullen improved on his performances in last year’s Paralympics by coming back from Montreal with a trio of IPC Swimming worlds medals.

Andrew, who is a former Scottish disability sport athlete of the year, claimed 50m butterfly bronze and silver in the 50m backstroke and 200m medley. As with last year’s Paralympics, Andrew broke personal best times in all his events.

Well done Andrew. MCHS is sooooo proud of you!!!
