Senior Boys Volleyball Cup Final

On Thursday 14th March, our senior boys took part in the Scottish Schools Cup Final at Coatbridge High School.   They fought in a tight match against Belmont Academy, previous winners of the Kelvin Hall National Festival in November.   Knowing it was going to be a tough match, the boys have been practicing hard over the last few weeks.

The match was nip and tuck the full way with Belmont coming out on top 25-19, 25-23.   The second set in particular could have gone either way.

Commiserations to the boys, but a huge congratulations required for getting to the Scottish Cup Final.   Well done boys:

Ross Taylor, Jhon Villaber, Ryan Magowan, Jamie Gemmell, Bilal Hussain, Darren Martin, Ian Clark, David Milton, Ross MacKenzie.

Thank you also to the fabulous supporters that came to watch.

Congratulations

Well done to our S1 Boys, S1 Girls and Senior Boys Volleyball teams.  Last week our S1 teams both qualified for the Scottish Cup Semi Finals by beating Stewarton Academy and Grange Academy respectively.  Both teams have drawn Stonelaw High School in the semis which will be a very competitive match.

Additionally, our senior boys team have made it through to the Scottish Cup Final.  This is a major achievement and will be playing at Coatbridge High School on Thursday 14th March.  Our opponents will either be Mearns Academy from Aberdeen or Belmont Academy from Ayr.

Well done everyone involved.

Macalaureate Award

Huge congratulations to Yung Wong who has earned the first ever Macalaureate Award at Mearns Castle High School.

Following her work with the S Factor, Yung chose to use her Art and History skills to produce a bonny wee leaflet all about William Wallace.  This was of a very high quality indeed.  Yung will be presented with her certificate and reward in the near future and has also earned Wallace house points.  Weel done Yung!

Congratulations

Congratulations to the Senior girls volleyball team who defeated Stonelaw High School in their first Scottish Cup tie on Wednesday 7th November.  It was an extremely close and competitive match.  Stonelaw took the first set with a thrilling 26-24 scoreline, however the Mearns Castle girls showed great determination to win the second set 25-20.  Stonelaw started the deciding set (up to 15) sharply with an 8-3 lead, however once again, the Mearns girls dug in and with some consistent serving, blocking and defending, turned the set around to win 15-13 and progress to the next round

Well done to: , S5 – Priya Gill (Team Captain), Helen Wilson, Priscilla Kirkland, S4 – Kate Taylor, Gemma Burnett, Hannah Dodds, Courtney Baillie, Fiona Smyth and Cara Chotai.
