Eco-Committee

The first meeting of this years’ Mearns Castle Eco-Committee will be on Monday 25th August in Science Lab A8 at 12:30.

If you would like to be considered for membership of the Eco Committee or would like to be part of the broader Eco Project group please attend.

We are looking for members from all year groups to be involved in a variety of projects over the course of the year and those who would like to be considered for a committee member role can also gain experience leading a variety of tasks.

This is a great opportunity to get involved in helping Mearns Castle continue to be eco-friendly and also a great way to meet with pupils from other year groups.

Chess Club

The school chess club will meet today in Room F14 at lunchtime.

New S1 pupils are especially welcome to join.

The club meets every Thursday and it is for all ages (S1 to S6) and levels of ability.

There will be in-school and interschool competitions throughout the school year.

Feel free to bring your lunch with you, or just drop in anytime during lunchtime.

Author Visit

The author, rapper and spoken word artist, Steven Camden (AKA Polarbear) will be visiting the school on Friday 22nd August.

All pupils who have put their name down to attend this event should come to the theatre at 12.40pm on Friday 22nd August.

A list of all the pupils who are attending has been posted on the noticeboard outside the library.  Steven Camden’s novel “Tape” is now available to buy in the library for £6.50.

You are very welcome to buy a copy and get it signed at the event.  See Miss McEachern for all details and to buy a book

Senior Boys (S5/S6) – Football Trial

There will be a football trial for Senior Boys (S5 and S6) on Thursday 21st August. It will be at the Astro pitch from 3.45pm – 5pm.

The trial will involve some fitness work, small sided games and 11-a-side game (time and numbers permitted). All boys who may be interested should attend the trial as you will not be able to be considered for the team this year if you do not attend. If, for any reason, you are unable to attend but would still like to be considered then you must speak with Mr Murphy (PE Dept) before Thursday 21st August.

If you have any questions please speak with me. I hope to see you at the trial on Thursday 21st.

Mr Murphy

S4 Work Experience

To date we have 102 pupils out of 211 who have found themselves a placement for Work Experience Week.  Well done!

Of these 102, pupils 69 have been booked on Work-it.

Pupils will soon be issued with logon details for the Work-it Database where they will have access to placements available.

These details will be issued through your PSE class in the near future.

Miss Oram has a list outside her office showing whose form has been returned to the school.

Please check this list and if you think we should have your form but your name is not showing this please speak to either Miss Oram or Mrs Steen in the office.
