The Mini-trials

The Mini-trials event took place on Saturday 26th November and the team of S6 pupils from Mearns Castle were successful in winning both of the cases convincingly.

In the morning trial the team were defending an assault case against Barrhead and in the afternoon trial the team were pursuing a civil case against Belmont. The pupils – Grace Cameron, Lucy Chambers, Hannah Couchlin, Adam Henderson, Aushna Ikhlaq, Johnathan Kinloch, Gregor Nesbitt and Christopher Park – had a terrific experience and were a credit to the school, drawing specific praise from professionals and organising staff alike, for their professional manner and commitment to the project and will receive their certificates shortly – well done to you all!!

Library Bookfair

The annual Christmas Bookfair will start in the library on Thursday 1st December and will go on every day until Thursday 8 December.  There will be loads of great new books to buy as well as pencils, pens, bookmarks, posters and other novelty items.  The Bookfair will be open to all pupils everyday:

  • before school starts from 8.30am
  • at lunchtimes from 12.50pm
  • after school until 4pm

S1 and S2 classes will also visit the Bookfair during English classes.  Come along to the library and have a browse and treat yourself to an early Christmas present!

Light up a Life

You may be aware that for a number of years our school has been working in Partnership with the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice.  We are involved each year in a range of fundraising events for the Hospice and indeed, as a result of our donations, we are very proud to say that the Hospice’s Training Room bears our school’s name.

Mr Smith has sent a letter home informing parents about this year’s find raising campaign- Light up a Life.

E-mail from Head Coach of the GB Women’s Volleyball Team

I am absolutely gob smacked with the fantastic efforts of your school in raising a whopping £5,086 for the GB women.  Please pass on a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all the kids and the staff involved, it totally exceeded any expectations we might have had.  This for sure will make a difference to our preparations next summer when the girls return from playing pro.

How on earth did you manage to raise so much money?  I know Lynne came into the school and spent time at assemblies and some classes, I am sure she was a big inspiration.  I am proud and honoured to have Lynne as the captain of the GB team, she is a credit to Scotland, GB and Mearns Castle High School.

Once again, thank you so much for getting behind the GB women’s team and raising money to keep our Olympic journey aliveAll the very best.   Audrey

Congratulations to everyone involved with Charities Week and for reaching your target of £7,000 and some!  Best of luck with the balloon race tomorrow and we hope it goes well and you have a clear day.

Warmest wishes to all at Mearns Castle High from all of us here at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.
