Eco Character

Introducing CARRIE

Do you like our Eco character designed by Jamie, one of our S4 pupils.

Jamie is one of the Eco committee members and after discussion withthe group  they came up with this idea.

This led to a model of the character being designed and the pupils from Loch Awe worked with Maureen our visual artist to create a wonderful model.

Jamie then volunteered to draw the character incorporating our school logo. He used some of the art tools from smartnotebook, tracing, drawing and colouring the logo. We can now use this logo in all our presentations.

We are all very proud of Jamie and his design.

Self Evaluation

How good are our presentations?………..

Today students from classes Shetland and Yell presented their powerpoint  presentations to their peers using the SMARTBoard.

This was was part of their SQA targets.

After each presentation the students were asked questions about their topic and then at the very end, the presentations were evaluated by the students.

Have a look at the photographs below which shows the students in action……. becoming successful learners, confident individuals and effective contributors.

StarGaze Drama

FAME JR………………………………

Congratultions to all the pupils who took part in last night’s premier of “Fame JR” at Eastwood Theatre.

I’m sure you will agree that everyone was amazing and all the hard work definetly paid off.

We had young people who were nervous but keen to get on stage, and others who wanted to prove to themselves that they could do it, and they surely did with a standing ovation at the end.

Miss Antelmi (Director) and Mr Hay (Musical Director) would like to thank everyone for all their support during the weekly drama sessions, supporting our young people to become confident individuals and successful learners.

This is a weekly after school club organised and run by volunteers from school staff, however, the principles of the drama group still tie in with a CfE and here are some of the experiences and outcomes that they have been working towards this year:

EXPRESSIVE ARTS EXPERIENCES AND OUTCOMES

  • I have created and presented scripted or improvised drama, beginning to take account of audience and atmosphere
  • I have experienced the energy and excitement of presenting/performing for audiences and being part of an audience for other people’s presentations.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING EXPERIENCES AND OUTCOMES

  • I know that friendship, caring, sharing, fairness and equality and love are important in building positive relationships. As I develop and value relationships, I care and show respect for myself and others.
  • I recognise that each individual has a unique blend of abilities and needs. I contribute to making my school community one that values individuals equally and is a welcoming place for all.
  • Through contributing my views, time and talents, I play a part in bringing change in my school and wider community.

50 Outdoor Challenges before you leave IMS

Some of our senior classes took advantage of the sunshine on Tuesday and completed two of their 50 outdoor challenges before they leave Isobel Mair School.

Challenge 1 was to help put up a tent………….

Challenge 2 was to walk on grass barefoot………….

The pupils split into groups and discussed how to put up the tent before they put their plan into action. Have a look at the photgraphs below to see how much fun, learning and collaboration took place.

The pupils also took part in some other challenges which incorporated team work, challenge, collaboration and problem solving. A great day of fun and learning.

Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day

Today we welcomed two very special visitors to school to  help us learn more from the Holocaust Memorial Day.

We were delighted when Carol Gillespie from Education Scotland told us that  Arn Chorn Pond, a Cambodian genocide survivor, flautist and human rights activist and Dr Racelle Weiman, a Holocaust educator from USA, would be visiting the school to give first-hand accounts of what it is like to experience such atrocities and pupils then had the opportunity to ask questions to help them understand the impact of these significant historical events.

Our visitors toured the school and then were treated to a performance from Reels on Wheels and 2 wonderful songs from our senior choir. Thanks to Dylan and Gemma for their solo performances. We were then delighted to listen to Arn as he played a Cambodian lullaby for us on his flute.

This was followed by a question and answer session in class Orkney.  We were so proud of our young people as they listened to the stories from Arn and Rachelle and asked lots of relevant questions.

This afternoon classes Orkney and Shetland  participated in the GLOW TV event  as Arn discussed more about his life in Cambodia and what he had to do to survive.

Look out for mAIRwaves FM next week as we will share some of our question and answer session with you.

Have a  look at some of the photos from the event and read the lovely comments left in our visitors book from Arn and Racelle.

A Little Bird Told Me……..

Thank you to everyone who came to our Christmas performance this morning of  “A Little Bird Told Me”, the children were truly amazing .

The staff and children have been working hard over the last few weeks, rehearsing and making costumes…….. and it all worked out in the end!

We were delighted to welcome a very special visitor for a starring role in the performance and Squire behaved impeccably. Have a look at the photographs to find out who our special visitor was.

Please read the comments below from one of our parents who attend this mornings performance.

“Clayton’s play was the most surreal thing I have ever watched.
Some children had their taking aids on that played over the speakers & screen some singing was pre-recorded and watched over the large screen with the script on powerpoint slides.
Each child was there with their support teachers all in costumes, the children in wheel chairs had huge cardboard painted camels attached to the front, there was a choir with sign language and children with instruments joining in. Birds flying (That was Clayton), Sheep baaaaaing, Shepherds, angels, Kings and a real donkey!!
Amazing and at the same time I sobbed through it all. Each child was included to the very best of their ability, supported by these amazing teachers all with SMILES on their faces.
