Shoebox Appeal

Thank you

Class Iona presented at this weeks assembly. They have been organising the “ShoeBox” Appeal. A slideshow of photographs was shown to the primary department to highlight the work they have undertaken. One of the highlights of the assembly was Leah singing our school song, a great achievement for her.

They appealed for all the pupils to contribute items to support the shoebox appeal, i.e toothpaste, soap, brushes, pens etc. They were overwhelmed with donations and with the help from the parents of Class Iona we were able to make up and send 65 boxes to the appeal.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Christmas Shoe Box Appeal, with your contributions we also raised £100 to contribute towards the postage of the Christmas boxes.

Have a look at some of our photographs below showing class Iona collecting, packing and delivering the shoeboxes to Blythswood Care who will in turn post them off to deserving children and adults.

Room on the Broom

Room on the Broom

Well done to classes Orkney and Staffa who have just performed their drama performance of Room on the Broom to some of the children from the Family Centre and pupils from Class Iona. This was their second performance as the first performance took place in our outdoor atrium as part of our outdoor learning week.

A great performance from all the children involved with lots of new skills being acquired, especially performing infront of an audience.
Pupils from Class Staffa were the characters from the story and the pupils from Class Orkney were magnificent with the voice overs and special effects.

A short video was made of the performance and you can see some of the photgraphs below.

Whalsay Assembly

World War 2

Class Whalsay led our assembly this week.

They invited their parents and family into school to watch their showcase.

They had prepared a presentation highlighting some of their recent topic work, World War 2.

They used the internet to  research information, collect photographs and they also visited a museum looking at lots of artefacts from the war.

The highlight of their assembly was a small drama piece all about the war. They dressed up as a charachter, sang songs and performed a dance.

Miss O’Brien took some video footage and Miss McMillan and Mrs Reed will show it to the class next week and use this as evidence for their achievement folders.

Have a look at some of our photographs below.

Classes Tiree and Arran have been learning about the work of Mary’s Meals, a Scottish Charity set up to help feed and educate children all over the world.

They shared this information with rest of school during one of our assemblies and set up a challenge to encourage pupils to  donate some bags filled with accessories like toothbrush, brush, pencils, paper etc which would be used to help others less fortunate.

The classes managed to donate 30 bags  plus extra supplies and raised £38.00.

Thank you for all your help and well done classes Tiree and Arran.
