Class Bute’s Invention

Class Bute have been learning about materials for their science topic.

Here is a quick update of what they have been doing over the past few weeks.

Week 1 – as an intro they learned about the properties of straw, sticks and bricks via the story of The Three Little Pigs.

Week 2 – was all about sensory materials – gloop, waterballs, etc

Weeks 3 – 5  is all about transforming paper using ‘machines’ – punches, embossers, staplers, scissors and a paper crinkler.

This week class Bute are preparing for the Science Fair. Their  invention is a paper aeroplane launcher mostly for use to support pupils in wheelchairs in flying a paper aeroplane.
The class had great fun trying out this invention last week and you could hear the hearty laughter from Ethan as the aerolane was launched from outside the conference room.

MAIRtrade Fair

Thank You

Thank You to everyone who came to support our MAIRtrade Fair.

I’m sure you will agree it was a huge success as we encourage our pupils to help others.

The children have all worked so hard learning all about Fairtrade and how it helps others. They  were all successful learners as they promoted the use of Fairtade materials to produce all of their crafts and baking.

We are delighted to inform you that we raised the magnificent amount of £670

Have a look at some of our photographs below.

Out and About Class Assembly

Out and About in the Community

Classes Skye and Lewis led our secondary assembly this afternoon and their theme was “Out and About in the Community”

Both classes have been working hard on their topics, visiting various places in the local community.

They have participated in visits to local shops and cafes, making choices, working as a group and exchanging money.

Independent travel has also been incorporated in our visits to Whitlee Wind Farm and the local recycling centre.

As part of their assembly a short movie was made to show the rest of the school the learning experiences that they have taken part in.

One of the pupils from Class Lewis introduced the assembly by reading out his introduction, a great achievement!

At the end of the assembly the pupils took part in a small discussion about the learning experiences that they saw in the DVD.

Well done to all the pupils from Classes Lewis and Skye.

IMS NEWS @ 2

The pupils of Class Shetland were excited to showcase their hard work at our school assembly.

They loved working with Phil Goodlad,Sports Reporter from the BBC,learning the skills required for putting together a news report.

Our team of intrepid reporters interviewed Mrs Wallace, Mrs Sim, Kirsteen from the kitchen and a few pupils. They asked some hard hitting questions that Sir Trevor McDonald would have been impressed with!

Their news report included some video footage of pupils saying goodye from the old school and then welcoming our fantsatic new school!

Mrs Wallace presented everyone with achievement certificates at the end for being confident individuals.
