Last day of Term – Wednesday 20th December

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to all to join us at Orchardhill Parish Church to celebrate with the children and staff at our Christmas Service on Wednesday 20th December 2017 at 1.30pm.  If your child normally has a home lunch it would appreciated if they could remain in school on Wednesday or be returned by 1.00pm at the very latest as the children will be leaving early to walk to the church. All pupils will return to school after the service to be dismissed

Please note that the primary school will finish early at 2.30pm on Wednesday 20th December 2017 and the afternoon nursery class will finish at 4.00pm.  There will be no PM wrap sessions that day.

The primary school and nursery will resume as normal on Thursday 4th January 2018.

May we take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy holiday.

Requests to hand out food to celebrate a birthday

NURSERY – PRIMARY 7

Dear Parent / Carer

We have had several requests recently from parents /carers for class teachers to hand out chocolates, cake or similar items to pupils to celebrate their child’s birthday.  We are sorry to have to advise you that we are unable to comply with such requests.  There are pupils within the school who have allergies, medical conditions and religious/faith-based requirements and therefore for health and safety reasons the school cannot be responsible for issuing food of any kind in such circumstances.

We thank you in advance for your understanding and co-operation.

Dear Parent /Carer

On Friday, 1st December, children are welcome to wear something seasonal/festive along with their school uniform, in support of the Giffnock Primary Parent Council Christmas Fair (Saturday, 2nd December from 12-3 pm) and bring a donation for our ‘Red Stall’.

Red Stall donations will be collected by teachers in the classrooms on Friday 1st December and donations of home (or shop!) baking – sweet or savoury – for the tea room can be handed in between 3 & 5 pm on Friday or from 11am on Saturday to Parent Council members and volunteers  who will be in school setting up for the Fair.

Any raffle donations that are not Red or consumable can be left in the box in the school office. Please contact us on Facebook, Twitter or email giffnockpc@hotmail.co.uk for further information or if you can help on the day. Thank you for your continued support and we hope to see you at the Fair!

We are really excited about our Christmas Fair – there are lots of great stalls for fabulous gifts from handmade chocolate, cakes and jams to beautiful handmade decorations, clothing and accessories to fun toys and stocking fillers as well as fun activities for the children and our festive café.  All are welcome and funds raised will help pay for extra school activities for the children which are great fun, build friendships and help broaden the children’s school experience and build their self esteem.

Road safety Week

Giffnock Primary

Road Safety Week

20th – 24th November 2017

Our JRSO Committee are raising awareness of Road Safety next week as part of a National Campaign to encourage drivers to ‘Speed Down’.

Throughout the week our children will have many exciting learning experiences within various areas of the curriculum and three fantastic competitions to win.

The prizes for these will be presented at our Road Safety Assembly on the 24th. We will have visits from our Lollipop Man and our JRSO Committee will have the opportunity to use the speed gun with our Campus Cop.

On Friday we will also have our Wear it Bright Day. We are asking for children to wear any item of clothing that is bright and will get them seen on the road. This can be an accessory added to their uniform e.g. a cap, a fluorescent wrist band or a scarf or if you want them to they can wear a whole outfit that incorporates bright and appropriate clothing. A donation to the Brake Charity is entirely optional.

Please keep a look out for more information over the week on our Twitter page and please encourage any conversations at home that raise awareness of safety over the week.

You can visit www.roadsafetyweek.org for more information too.

Thank You,

JRSO Committee

after school clubs this week

Because Parents’ Evenings are taking place in the school next week (Wednesday 8th November and Thursday 9th November), the undernoted After School Clubs will not be taking place –  either because they fall on the actual day or because the teacher has to prepare for parent interviews earlier in the week.  You have already been advised of the dates for the clubs but this is just a reminder.

Clubs Not Running

Monday 6th November – Badminton Club
Tuesday 7th November – Code Club & Guitar Club
Wednesday 8th November – Film Club

Thursday 9th November – Science & Archery & Reading/Book & Football for P6 & P7 pupils

Please note that the Multi Sport Club (P1 –P3 pupils) which is held on Mondays will still take place as the coaches are not teachers in the school and therefore will not be involved in preparation for Parents’ Evening.

anti-bullying week

Giffnock Primary School celebrates…..

Anti Bullying Week

13th November to 17th November 2017

#respectmeans

During Anti-Bullying Week we are asking adults and young people alike to get involved in a national conversation about what #respectmeans to them – encouraging them to show leadership against bullying and reflect on their own and others’ behaviour. Respect is fundamental to all relationships – including online relationships – and it should be at the heart of how we treat each other.  There will be various activities in Giffnock Primary during the week and full details can be seen in the accompanying letter:
