East Renfrewshire Convoy to Calais

MESSAGE FROM COUNCILLOR WATERS FOR HEAD TEACHERS & HEADS OF ESTABLISHMENTS

Colleagues,

The ER Convoy to Calais has had magnificent support from the schools and nurseries in our communities. I’ve been amazed and made proud by the generosity of schools and parents.  The convoy leaves this Thursday evening and, as we promised, there is an open invitation to pupils, staff and parents to come along to the departure. We leave after school hours, so I know this will be a decision for each family to make.

To help us extend the invitation to all your parents, could you please post this message on your school websites, Facebook and twitter, if you have them?

“The East Renfrewshire Convoy to Calais leaves this Thursday at 8pm from the car park of ER Council HQ in Eastwood Park, Giffnock. They are taking the largest single donation from anywhere in Scotland.  Schools and nurseries from all over East Renfrewshire responded with overwhelming generosity to the appeal.  All parents, children and staff are invited to be there for the send-off. The convoy organisers want to give the families who contributed the opportunity to see their donations leave, and to send the convoy off in style.

We hope you can join us.”

Survey of online payments and communication

Parents/Carers

The council is currently  reviewing  admin/clerical processes across the Education Depertment and also looking to improve upon the current online payments system.  Given the obvious link between both these pieces of work, we have created a short survey for parents/carers which we hope will capture your views on both preferred methods of general (admin type) communications with schools/pre-five establishments and also your thoughts on the online payment solution.

Inclusion Service – Thursday 8th October

Nursery – P7

Dear Parent / Carer

We would like to remind you that the Inclusion Service will be held on Thursday 8th October at 1.30pm in Orchardhill Parish Church – all parents are welcome to attend.  After the service the pupils will return to school for dismissal at the normal time.

Pupils in Primary 5 and Primary 6 will be leading the service and will be leaving the school early to prepare – together with choir members and pupils chosen to play guitar – we would therefore ask that these children do not have a home lunch that day.

The school will be closed to pupils on Friday 8th October (In Service day) and the following week for the October holiday with pupils returning on Monday 19th October at the normal time.

Curriculum Event – Tuesday 6 October 2015

Primary 1 – Primary 7

Dear Parent / Carer

If you had applied to take part in the workshops to be held at the Curriculum Event (Tuesday 6th October 2015) your youngest child will have brought home further information on Friday – please check their school bag.

The school will be open from 6.15pm to enable you to “sign in” for the evening and find the venue for your first workshop at 6.30pm.

You may find it helpful to bring the slip along on Tuesday to remind you of your chosen workshops for the evening.

Cycling in the playground

Dear Parent/Carer

It has been brought to my attention, again, that cyclists, both children and on some occasions adults are cycling in the school playground when arriving at the start of the school day and again before exiting the playground at home time. I highlighted this in the September Newsletter………………………

“Cycle Friendly we are proud of our cycle friendly status, however to avoid accidents may I once again remind all cyclists to dismount before entering the playground and push their bikes within all playground areas. Thank you for your support.”

However, this resulted on Thursday in a cyclist colliding with a parent.

I have since spoken to pupils and in the interest of health and safety for all I ask for your support in ensuring everyone follows these procedures.
