Film Club Review of the Week winners in P7A

Congratulations to Abbie, Lewis and Nathan of P7A for winning Review of the Week awards this month as part of Film Club in Giffnock Primary!

Film Club has been running for nearly 7 years as an after-school club. Giffnock is part of a nationwide network of clubs in schools across the UK – nearly 10,000 schools now run clubs as part of the organisation Into Film. In the club children watch a wide variety of films and are encouraged to post written reviews on the Into Film website. Each week 10 reviews, out of the thousands posted in the UK, are chosen as Review of the Week by staff at the Into Film headquarters in London.

Abbie, Lewis and Nathan have written reviews of Ernest and Celestine, The Pirates! In an Adventure With Scientists and Chicken Run. You can read them on the Into Film website. Click on the link below and then scroll through the pages to find the reviews.

June 2015 Newsletter

Nursery – P7

Dear Parent / Carer

We have been advised that unfortunately there was an error in the recent newsletter issued by the school.  The section “Holidays & In-Service Days” should have read that the school would resume for pupils on THURSDAY 13th August 2015.  We apologise for any confusion that this may have caused.

As mentioned in previous emails the school will close at 1.00 pm on Wednesday 24th June –  we would like to wish you all a relaxing summer break.

Last Day of Term Arrangements

Parent / Carer of Nursery – P7 Pupils

Dear Parent / Carer

You are warmly invited to attend the end of term Summer Service in Orchardhill Parish Church on Wednesday 24th June at 11.00 a.m.  All pupils will return to school after the service to be dismissed at 1.00 p.m.  Please note that school lunch will only be available for free school meal pupils (which includes all P1 – P3 pupils) and the choice will be Quorn Hot Dog or Burger.

We would confirm that nursery pupils will be attending the Church Service and as the service is not expected to finish until about 12 noon could you please make arrangements to collect your nursery child at 12.15 p.m.   If this arrangement is not convenient then could you please collect your child from the nursery by 10.30 a.m. before the children leave for the Church.  Please note that there will be no afternoon nursery session as both the school and nursery close at 1.00 p.m.

We hope that you will have a lovely summer break and look forward to welcoming the pupils back for the new session at the normal time on Thursday 13th August 2015.

Sports Day for P1-P7 Friday 12 June 1.30pm Huntly Park

PARENTS/CARERS OF P1 – P7 PUPILS ONLY

Dear Parent / Carer,

You are warmly invited to attend our School Sports Day on Friday 12th June at 1.30 pm at Huntly Park.

Programme of events: Sports Day June 2015 – Programme

Pupils will be leaving school at 1.10pm to walk to the park to be ready for the 1.30 pm start.  It would be very much appreciated if all pupils could stay in school for lunch that day. Should this cause any difficulty for you please contact the school office.

In the highly unlikely event of inclement weather the Sports Day will take place in school – unfortunately parents will be unable to attend the indoor event due to limited space.  We will keep you updated via the school website!

For Parents of Nursery Pupils

Parents Of Nursery Pupils Only – we have been asked by The Scottish Government to pass on this information

Dear Parent / Carer

The Scottish Government has proposed to increase the provision of free childcare to 1140 hours per year for children who are 3 or 4 years old, as well as for vulnerable 2 year olds who are eligible for the 600 hours free entitlement through the Children & Young People’s Act 2014.  With this in mind we are conducting a survey exploring how parents would wish to use this increase. The results of this survey will help guide policy on early years child care provision. In order for the survey to produce representative results it is important that we reach as many parents of 3 or 4 year old children from as wide a variety of back grounds as possible, this includes those who do not currently use free child-care provision.

The survey is available at the following link.

All  classes have been issued with a homework task linking to ‘The Rights of The Child.’ This work will consolidate learning within the different classes as part of our school working towards Level 1 Rights Respecting School Award.

We hope you will support your child in completing this task to enhance their learning  and encourage them to become active global citizens and challenge injustice, inequality and poverty in the world.

May Holiday School Closure

Dear Parent / Carer

Just a reminder that the school and nursery will be closed on Friday 22nd May and Monday 25th May for the May holiday.  The school and nursery will also be closed to pupils on Tuesday 26th May as this is an In Service day for staff.  Pupils should return at the normal time on Wednesday 27th May 2015.

We hope that you have a nice May holiday.

Primary 1 Induction Thursday 4 June – reminder

Starting school is an exciting time for our youngsters, but it can be quite daunting for the adults! The Induction programme is designed to ensure that we share life at Giffnock Primary School and answer any questions you may have about the school and your child’s learning. It is also an important part of the starting school process for your child, as they can come along and visit the school and meet their teacher.

A letter with full details has already been sent out and you can click on the link below for a copy:
