Children in need Pudsey biscuits

We have been asked by the school kitchen to advise you that the kitchen will be selling Pudsey shortbread biscuits for Children In Need on Friday 16th November.  The biscuits will cost 35p (10p going to Children in Need).  On this occasion in order to allow the charity donation to be made, biscuits will be sold on a CASH ONLY basis and NOT through ParentPay.  The kitchen will only be able to sell one biscuit per child to ensure that no one will miss out.  The kitchen have asked if you could try to ensure that your child brings the exact money as they will have a limited amount of change.

Travelling Book Fair

We always want to encourage children to enjoy reading for pleasure and that’s why we’re holding a Book Fair on our parent/teacher evenings this Wednesday and Thursday.

The Travelling Book Company Fair will be held in the Library and there are hundreds of exciting titles to browse through with your child. We get commission from every book that is bought and this commission enables us to buy new books for the library, for class topics and for class reading.

The Travelling Book Company brings a fantastic range of great children’s books right into the school for the children to explore. The range contains a balanced mix of fiction, non-fiction and activity titles, carefully put together so that there will be something for everyone. On the shelves you will find humour, action, drama, intrigue and mystery!

Children will be given a leaflet on Tuesday which gives an idea of the range and price of books, but there are lots more to see on the night!

We hope that you and your child will enjoy the leaflet and looking at the books on Wednesday or Thursday.

Family-Friendly School Improvement Plan

During August, our Primary 7 children were set the challenge to create a way of sharing our key school priorities this session in a way that all of our children and families could understand. After working in groups to create a range of formats, including iMovies, Scratch animation and puppet shows, the children have put together this Sway for our school community. They presented it at a whole school assembly last Friday and we hope you find it useful:

Community Cafe and Pumpkin Pandemonium!

Our hugely popular Community Cafe at Giffnock Primary returns on Friday of this week, from 3pm-4pm in our Achievement Hall.  With our P6 and P7 pupils taking on the roles of baristas, waiting staff and kids club entertainers, please drop in to enjoy a lovely cake, a hot drink and tremendous service!

Our Parent Council have organised some Halloween fun alongside the event in our Blue Hall too. We hope to see you all there!

Pumpkin pandemonium

PUMPKIN PANDEMONIUM!

The Parent Council are hosting an afternoon of spooky fun in the blue hall on Friday 26th October from 3pm – if you’re popping into the Community Café, come in and see us for some Halloween fun and games – prizes to be won!

Remember and bring £1 to school on that day for crazy/spooky hair day! Best crazy/spooky hair on the day wins a prize! All funds raised will go towards funding activities and equipment for the children at Giffnock Primary School.

Here’s a taster of what we will have on the day…………

Slime factory – make your own gooey slime to take home with you! Yeuch……

Bring in your carved pumpkins for “The Best Carved Pumpkin” competition – the scarier the better.

Guess the number of Spooky Spiders in the jar.

Good old fashioned “dooking for apples”.

Guess the name of the witches pet for the chance to win her pet – a life sized cuddly version of it.

A “Spooky Stories” area with a chance to blind feel spooky items………

Halloween would not be complete without having a “Party Piece” – tell us your best joke, sing a song or even dance – whatever you want – prize for the best on the day!

 

Nursery Uniform

Gilmour Sports have asked us to send an apology on their behalf to any parents/carers who have experienced delays with the delivery of nursery uniform items.  They have had problems with suppliers but have assured us that they have now taken steps to ensure that sufficient stock should be available in future.

 

Free books – tokens to collect!

Giffnock Primary School have registered with the Scottish Sun for Free Books for Schools. If we collect enough tokens from the Scottish Sun and Scottish Sun on Sunday we will be eligible for as many as 105 books from Collins Big Cat. Please help our library grow, if you can!

All tokens should be handed in at our school office.

seasons for growth

 

Seasons for Growth is an educational programme which aims to build the resilience of children and young people who are dealing with significant loss or change

The death of a loved one, parental divorce or separation, moving to a new house or school… big changes like these can cause confronting and confusing emotions. Seasons for Growth helps children and young people to develop the language needed to express their feelings, and gives them a safe place to talk about them.

Seasons for Growth was designed with reference to developmental psychology, ensuring that activities are appropriate and relevant to the age and stage of participants. It has been adapted to a learning framework to be an educational programme. It is not therapy, but it is therapeutic.

In Giffnock Primary we have trained companions who can run small groups for children and a separate one for adults who wish to find out how to best support their child.
