Woodfarm High Learning Festival September 7th
Woodfarm High School, our main cluster high school, are inviting all P5-7 parents to their Learning Festival on Thursday 7th September from 4.30-6pm. A range of learning experiences will be showcased and this will be a great time to learn more about the transition to high school. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Parent Council AGM
Our Parent Council have asked us to remind all parents and carers that our Parent Council AGM will be held on Monday 4th September 2017 at Giffnock Primary School (Achievement Hall/ Library) at 7pm. All parents and carers are most welcome; this is a great chance to become more aware of school priorities and themes, as well as being an opportunity to meet and chat with others. Cheese and wine will provided as part of the evening and we very much hope that you can attend.

Parental Calendar of Events 2017-18
We have updated the calendar of events on our website, which you can access through the ‘calendar’ image on the home page or through the ‘Information’ tab.
The calendar will be updated regularly throughout the session and we hope that this will provide a useful means for you to plan ahead and be aware of significant activities.
Welcome back to Session 2017-18!
A very warm welcome back to Giffnock Primary and the start of the new school year. A special mention must go to all of the new members of our Giffnock Family, not least our resplendent new Primary 1’s!
There has been a lovely buzz around the school today, from the playground at the start of the day onwards, and we are delighted to be back together, looking forward to the year ahead.

Sports Day is on
The forecast is to brighten from mid morning and, having checked the area at Huntly Park, whilst the grass is wet the ground is not sodden. So Sports Day is on and we will make the very best of it! Bring a plastic bag to sit on.
Lunch menu change Thursday june 22
MENU CHANGE – THURSDAY 22ND JUNE 2017
As part of our school Healthy Eating promotion events, our Primary 5s designed a healthy menu for the day.
The pupils had to use favourite healthy options from current menus and to redesign them with a twist in the theme of Superhero (from our recent school show).
After much deliberation, as the standard of entries was very high, our catering team and staff chose Katie Stewart’s entry. Katie’s winning entry will be sold this Thursday (22nd June) at school lunches.
Please note that the winning menu is shown below and will replace the scheduled menu which is currently shown online.

Please note that the sale of Film/DVD and Programmes is not being co-ordinated through the School Office. If you wish to purchase any of these items please ask your child to keep the envelope with the cash on them and they will be given an opportunity to go to a point of sale during the school day – please do not bring cash or envelopes directly into the School Office.

Eid Holiday
Primary 1 – Primary 7
Dear Parent/Carer,
We are aware that many children and families will celebrate Eid at the end of June.
It is understood that Eid will be Sunday 25th or Monday 26th June.
If you plan to keep your child off school for Eid we would be grateful if you could please telephone the school office before Friday 23rd May and advise whether they will just be off for the one day (Monday 26th June) or whether they will be off for two days (also Tuesday 27th June).
P7 Woodfarm induction days
P7 only
As you are already aware the P7 Induction Days for Woodfarm High School will take place on Monday 19th June and Tuesday 20th June.
If your child requires medication in school, could we please remind you to provide this to Woodfarm High School next week.
Mary’s meals
The RRS committee would like to remind children to bring in any back-packs or items that can be put in a bag in support of Mary’s Meals – all items will be gratefully received anytime now (class teachers are keeping items in the classroom). Children will be involved in the convoy loading the van! Pickup Tuesday 20th June at 11.30.
Any loose change for bottles welcome too.

ice pole sales for charity
Due to the success of their charitable venture, the P3 children, as part of their learning on Numeracy and Financial Education, are going to continue to sell Calypso ice lollies for charity.
The children will be selling these at break times again, throughout next week, Monday to Thursday, 19th to 22nd June. The ice lollies cost 30p (limited to one per child per day). Please note these ice lollies are suitable for vegetarians; should you wish for further information on ingredients you can visit: http://www.mr-freezepops.co.uk/
As promised, the final total along with information on the chosen charity/ies will be shared via twitter.
Exotic fruit tasting sessions
Thank you to our parents for coming along this morning to try out some fruit with their children. Popular choices were Dragon Fruit and Pineapple!
We have added some of the information which was shared.
We hope you enjoyed the session.
P7 Leaving ceilidh
The P7 Leaving Ceilidh will take place on Wednesday 21st June. Pupils should arrive at approximately 6.55pm via the ramp entrance to the school for the Ceilidh to start promptly at 7.00pm.
During the course of the evening formal photographs will be taken and a separate letter has been sent home with your child which you should return if you wish them to participate and purchase a photograph.
The evening will finish at 9.00pm and parents/carers are invited to join in the final part of the Ceilidh. Parents/Carers can enter via the ramp entrance to the school at 8.45pm to join the celebrations for the last 10 – 15 minutes.
We hope that everyone has an enjoyable evening.
