25th Jan Art Ideas! :)

Happy Birthday Robert Burns!

I hope you are all safe and well. This week our art focus will be related to Robert Burns. Below are a few ideas that you might want to try at home.

Robert Burns is the National Poet of Scotland. He was born on 25th January 1759 and today would have been his birthday. Burns was born in Alloway, AyrshireScotland. Some of his most famous poems include To A MouseAuld Lang Syne, and Tam o Shanter.

Birthday Card

Woven Thistle Craft!

Use wool or thread to decorate a paper thistle. Blank templates can be printed here. https://coloring.ws/scotland.htm.

  • The Scottish thistle is actually part of the sunflower family. The thistle represents bravery, devotion, durability, strength and determination.
  • Have you ever spotted a real Scottish Thistle? Which two colours do you see? I think the real Scottish Thistle would feel jaggy to touch…best to just look from a distance!

Woven Tartan Hearts

  • Can you make a woven tartan heart? The template can be downloaded here: https://www.firstpalette.com/printable/heart-basket.html
  • Make a few and join them together to create some Robert Burns inspired bunting.

Take care and stay safe,

Mrs. Macdonald

11th Jan Art Ideas :)

Good Morning!

I hope you all enjoyed a lovely Christmas break.

Please find attached a few art activities that we will be doing in school this week. You are welcome to try these out at home.

Design a Hedgehog!

  • Use different shapes, colours or textures to create some hedgehog spikes.
  • Could you use natural materials? Twigs or leaves from the garden or your local park?

Pulled String Art

  • You will need paper, string and paint or ink.
  • Does positioning the string on different areas of the card create layers?

Scottish Tartan

  • Try using the website to search for a Clan tartan.

https://clan.com/help/tartan-help/how-find-family-clan-tartan

  • Do you have any items in your house which are designed in tartan?  Look closely at the pattern. Do you see straight lines or curved lines? How many different colours are there?
  • Have a look at some tartan being hand woven. It is a super skilled job!

Oak Home Learning 11th Jan

Hello Oak friends, it is the start of a new year.  It is already a new year with a difference.  We are sad that we are not able to return to the classroom to learn together.  For now, we will be learning remotely and we will check in every week.  We look forward to seeing you all on Vscene and taking part in some activities.

There will be a selection of activities that cover literacy, numeracy, and Health and well-being.  Please click on the week commencing date 11th Jan and it will take you to the activities.   Try them out and repeat them throughout the week. We learn and consolidate our learning by repeating activities.

There is no pressure to complete all the tasks go at your own pace and do what you can.  If you do complete any activities we would love to see some photos.  We will share your photos on our class blog and all your friends can see what you have been up to. Please email your photos to nicola.murray@eastayrshire.org.uk

Routine and structure are important for us all to manage through this uncertain time.  Plan your day of activities before going to bed, set an alarm, get up have breakfast and start your day.  Do not forget to add in daily exercise and fresh air, a short walk will help everyone feel better.

Stay home, stay safe and smile.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas from everyone in the Oak class.  We have had a busy last week with lots of special visitors from Holly McJingle and Santa Claus.

Christmas has been different this year but everyone in the Oak class have been confident individuals and coped well with all the changes and we have still have had fun along the way!

We have made our unique hand-print calendar for 2021, and also a countdown  paper chain until Santa comes.

We had fun taking part in Christmas fitness workouts, we had some great movers within the group.

We hope everyone has a lovely Christmas, stay safe and we will be back for more hard work and fun in January 2021!
