World book day will be celebrated in school on THURSDAY 6TH MARCH! We would like to invite all our children to come to school that day either dressed up as a book character or snuggled up dressed in their pyjamas for a bedtime story.
In the lead up to World Book Day we will be hosting our annual Scholastic Book Fair. Children will have the opportunity to visit the fair with their class and write their “wish list” of books. If you wish to purchase books from your child’s wish list you can do so by following instructions to online payment that will be given out to children at the book fair.
Finally, it wouldn’t be World Book Day without a story themed competition! Our Reading Schools Ambassadors are setting a challenge for children to CREATE A CHARACTER TATTIE! At home, find your best looking tattie and transform it into a literary character… a Harry Potter tattie, a Gruffalo tattie, maybe even a Tracey Beaker tattie… use your imagination and get creative! Please bring all finished tatties to school for judging by WEDNESDAY 5TH MARCH! There will be a winner and a runner up from our infant school (P1, P1/2, P2/3), our middle school (P3/4, P4, P4/5), and our senior school (P5, P6, P7) so plenty of prizes up for grabs!
As part of our commitment to make maths exciting and high profile in our school, we are taking part in a friendly competition involving schools in across the UK. The competition runs from 07:30 GMT Friday 7th February 2025 to 19:30 GMT Friday 7th February 2025. It’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.
Children can play in any gamemode with every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, earning themselves, their class and the school a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below)). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.
To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60-minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60-minutes between 07:30 GMT and 19:30 GMT on 07:30 GMT Friday 7th February 2025 to 19:30 GMT Friday 7th February 2025. Once the player goes beyond 60-minutes of play on that day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.
In the spirit of the competition, please don’t play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn’t cause high stress levels or impact on family plans.
Calling all NCPS Primary 6s and 7s how would you like the opportunity to become a “Fitfest Ambassador” – well now is your chance.
In partnership with NCPS, NCDT are looking to recruit a group of young people in either P6 or P7 to help with the planning and organisational side of Fitfest! This Includes having your own portion of budget to spend on an activity or event at #FitFest2025 and of course a tshirt and hoodie!
So if you have a passion for all things #fitfest and are keen to be involved in the NC community then we would love to hear from you.
Young people will be asked to complete an application form and also attend a short interview so we can learn and hear lots about them.
Here is some key information for anyone who may be interested in applying:
⭐️ 27/01/25 – Tammy from NCDT & Geraldine 🦒will attend NCPS Get Together to explain #fitfest ambassadors to the whole school. Application forms will be given to the P6 and P7 teachers to distribute to anyone who wishes to apply.
⭐️ 30/01/25 – Completed applications must be returned to the NCDT Office (21 Castle) no later than 4pm on this day.
⭐️ 03/02/25 – All young people will be notified as to whether they have reached interview stage or not.
⭐️ 04/02/25 – Interviews will take place in NCPS.
Most importantly any young person wishing to be involved must be available to attend Fitfest on 25/05/25 and have permission from a parent/guardian.
We know how much the young people in our community LOVE #fitfest and we cannot wait for them to be involved in making 2025 EVEN better!
Please like, share and tag any young people who you think would be a great addition to our team!
We are looking for a further 4 girls from P5-7 to attend a girl’s football event at Cumnock Juniors Park, Townhead, Cumnock on Tuesday 1st October from 3-5pm.
The community minibus will leave school at 2.45pm and return to school for 5.15pm. Please complete the form below if your child wishes to attend. It will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Letters will be sent home soon after.
Thanks so much to @ealibraries for visiting our school on Friday. The children loved choosing books for the classrooms. Our partnership with the mobile library van will continue this session bringing reading access to our school and community. #readingschools
