P4 – Mummified Foods – The Final (Week 3)

We have been observing our mummified food for three weeks now! All of the foods that were mummified shrunk in size, turned a deeper colour (some even went brown or black), had no juice or water left in them and had a funny smell. They smelled like salty sea water and dirty bins! It is important to point out that all of the mummified foods still, in a way, looked like they did at the start of the experiment.

The foods that were just left to rot were vile and hugely stinky. The worst smelling food was the banana and that was closely followed by the disgusting hotdog! The foods that were left to rot had tuned mushy, watery and were decomposing. None of the rotten foods were still whole – they had broken into different sloppy parts. It was really difficult to tell the tomato and the onion apart because they had changed so much and almost morphed into each other!

We now have a much better understanding of the way in which mummification was used to preserve human bodies – but we can’t imagine that it would have been a nice job.

We bet that it was honking!
