SLC 2 and Mrs Blaney’s groups 15th June

Hi,

Wow, I can’t believe this is now our second last week of home schooling!! You have all done amazingly well and I am so proud of each and everyone of you for working so hard!! Here are some new activities that you can try this week.

Mrs Blaney x

Literacy

  • This week I would like you to look at the ‘ff’ sound. Keep the words that you make to 4 letter words without making them too tricky for the moment. Here are some suggestions; buff, cuff, tiff, off. How many can you make? If you kept the letter cards you made weeks ago then add an extra ‘f’ card and use these to make the words.
  • Remember to use the blank board games to practise your words. These are good to use for reading the words you have made.

  • How are you getting on with the green and yellow words? Remember I only give new words each week for those that need them. Just keep working on the ones you are comfortable with, there is no need to learn them all!! You can use lots of different materials to help you spell (you don’t always need paper and a pencil!!). Try chalk, paint, playdough, stones, beads etc. You could ask someone to write the ones you know onto one of the game boards, play the game and read the words. I have added another 2 yellow words but please do not feel you have to read and write all of these, just do what you can!

  • I have added 2 links to activities from BBC bitesize that practise the work you have been doing on counitng in 2’s and 5’s.
  • Use your blank numberline and square grid to copy the work from the worksheets on to so you can complete the work.
  • Please do not print any of the sheets.
  • Do what you can with the work on these links and do not panic if you find any of it tricky.
  • Try using objects in your house to count in 2’s e.g pairs of socks, shoes etc

Fun for all

It is such a shame that we have not been able to do Sports Day this year but I thought you might like to plan and have your own Sports Day at home with the people in your house. Get them all involved and have some fun!! Here are some activities you can try with your family.

  • Many large sports events have their own mascot. I would like you to design your own mascot. Here are some pictures to help.

  • Everyone likes to win a medal when they do well at a competition. Can you design your own medal or even make one to present to the winner in your house?

  • What about designing and making a poster to advertise your Sports Day? You could add information like:
  • Day and time
  • Where it’s held
  • Sports that will be played
  • Prizes that will be won

  • Here are some ideas you could use during your Sports Day

sports day

  • When I speak to you next week you can let me know how your Sports Day went. Have fun!!

Miss Lee’s SLC Group

Hi everyone, it’s Monday again. Sorry I am a bit late in getting this posted for you all today. A few technical difficulties. I hope that you are all well and have had a good weekend. I have a few activities for you to try this week. I really enjoyed finding out what you have all been doing when I phoned last week. It’s great to hear how you all are, I’m really missing you all. Take care of yourselves this week and I will phone soon to find out how you all are.

Literacy

Bug Club – This week pick one of the stories that you have and read it with someone that you live with. This could be mum, a brother or sister or even a pet. My cat Patches loves when Niamh reads to him.

Spelling Challenge –  In the packs that you got delivered there is a “Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check” sheet for spelling. Put this into your overwriting pocket and use it to practice these common words that have these sounds in them “cr”, “dr” and “br”

  • crab
  • crown
  • drill
  • draw
  • brush
  • brick

Writing – “The view from my window”

This week can you pick a window in your house and sit at it. Then try to write 4 sentences to describe what you can see from your window on your whiteboard. Imagine that you describing it to me remembering that I have never seen the view from this window.

Talking and Listening – Why not pick play “Would you rather….”  and talk about these questions with your family. They are good fun and can really get you thinking.

  • Would you rather fly like a bird or swim like a dolphin? Why?
  • Would you rather eat a snail or a slug? Why?
  • Would you rather never eat sweets again or never eat chocolate again? Why?

Numeracy

Making Ten Challenge – To do this challenge you will need two plates and 10 small objects (lego bricks, cars, crayons whatever you have to hand).

Take it in turns to pick up a handful of the objects and place them onto one of the plates. The other player then places the rest of them onto the other plate.

With your child count each set of objects on the plates. Then, count the total before talking about the number bond that you have made. “There are seven on this plate and three on this plate. 7+3 makes 10.”

Use the link below to get some more ideas about how to play this game with your child.

file:///F:/WFH/Numeracy%20Activities/Making%2010%20challenge.pdf

Outdoor Maths Challenge – Pick two of your Numeracy Challenge cards from your Home Learning pack and have a go at them. You could let me know which ones you’ve tried by leaving a comment below.

Online

There’s plenty of number and shape activities you could try in Sumdog and Topmarks.

Outdoor Learning – Why not sit in your garden or next time you go for a walk try to count all the different kinds of birds that you see? The birds are very busy at this time of year and you will see lots gathering food for their young chicks.

Art

In your Time Capsule sheets that came in your second Home Learning Pack there is an activity which involves you drawing around everyone’s hands in your house. Why not have a go at this and then colour it in. You could also do your front cover if you haven’t already coloured this in.

Something Else To Try

This weeks recipe is for Chocolate Brownies. Hope you have fun making them.

Chocolate Brownies

You will need:- 200g Caster Sugar

P1/2 Home Learning – 8.6.20

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re all hanging in there okay.  The weather has taken a bit of a turn so fingers crossed for some more sunshine soon! I hope you’re all still managing to get some school work done, whatever you can manage is enough! Just look after yourselves and your family.  I look forward to seeing you all soon – still missing you!

Remember to still work through some of the play ideas for June on the previous blog post!

Primary 3/4 Home Learning – Week Beginning 8th June

Hello Primary 3/4, I hope you and your families are safe, well and happy. Please find below this week’s tasks for you to try and work on. Please have a look through and  try your best. Do what you can, when you can 😊

Literacy and English
1) This weeks phonic sound is “ee” and your words to practice reading and spelling are: see, green, three, sleep, feel, need and deep.   If you want to challenge yourself further, try to think of 5 different ee words. This week, lets try to link spelling and writing by writing our spelling words into a short story. Underline your spelling words if you can and remember, if you include adjectives, underline them in blue too!

2) Aim to spend around 20-25 minutes on Bug Club. You could split this into 2 shorter sessions of 10 minutes if you wish. I have made sure that you all have books allocated. Remember to check for any teacher feedback too.
3) Design and create a card to give someone a message and show them that you care. Think about who you are going to give your card to – will it be somebody in your house or somebody that you miss? Perhaps you could post it or pop it in their door when you are out for a walk with your family. What design do you think the person would like for the front cover? (in class we sometimes look on google image for design ideas) What message will go on the inside? Remember the format for writing your message.

Numeracy & Maths
4) Go on sumdog and complete the challenge questions focused on place value. When you log in and go to play a game, the place value questions will come up first. Last week’s questions on division are still there if you have not completed them yet.
5) Use the function machines below to practice addition. There are 2 different sheets so that you may choose the one you think is best for you. You may write these out as addition calculations in your home learning jotter eg 5+4=9 or 52+12=65

6) Complete the challenge below. Just as we practice in class, there is always more than 1 way to solve a challenge. We like to explore the different ways a challenge can be solved eg a calculation, drawing a picture, an empty number line, acting it out. Talk to your adult about how you solved it. Can you find 2 different ways to show how you may solve the problem?

All My Other Learning
7) Paint your own minibeast rocks! Next time you are walking outdoors or playing out, why don’t you see if you can find some suitable sized rocks to paint and design into different minibeasts? You hide these in your garden/outdoor space for your family to find! Here are some ideas to get you started.

8) Exercise and movement is so important for our health and wellbeing. Can you create an exercise routine for you and your family? You could use your names to give you ideas too.

9) Mrs Hill has prepared some tasks for you too:
