Carnoustie High School Parent Councils AGM

Parent Councils exist in a number of schools in Scotland with the remit to support school and
education departmental staff to ensure that education in schools is directed towards the development
of the personality, talents, and mental and physical abilities of school pupils in order to achieve their
full potential.

This is instigated by means of promoting a) partnership between the school staff and the parent forum,
to which the parent council reports periodically, and  which is open to all individuals who have a child
at the respective schools, and, and b) links between the school and the wider community.
In essence, Parent Councils provide an opportunity for parents to influence the education agenda.

The Annual General Meeting of the Carnoustie High School Parent Council is being held on Tuesday
2 September at 7.00pm in the Carnoustie High School Theatre, to which parents and carers are
warmly invited.

The Parent Council is currently seeking new members, and details of the roles and activities will be
presented at the meeting.

Further details can be obtained from Mr Malcolm J B Finlayson Secretary, 11 Bankhead Crescent,
Arbroath, phone 01241 871446, or e-mail: chspc1972@yahoo.co.uk

Best Practice – Arbrilot Parent Council

Having attended a rural parent council meeting recently and hearing of the success of the above I thought you would like to hear that Arbirlot is moving forward in August offering a similar service to its parents and community.
I have for the last 3 years ran a Parent & Toddler Group at Arbirlot on a Friday morning.  This has always been an informal gathering to which all parents are welcome to come have a chat, socialise their younger ones and share issues, aske questions.  I have never thought of opening this up to the community until hearing of the success of Strathcafe.
So we are pleased to confirm that as the new term of August 2014 commences each Friday afternoon in the nursery room at Arbirlot we will be holding Arbirlot School Coffee Afternoons each Friday from 1 to 3.15pm.  This will run alongside my Parent & Toddler Group and offer parents from the school, community to attend and ask questions, get information, have a cuppa and socialise their younger children at the Parent & Toddler Group as well.
Thanks Mandy Herald
Chair Arbirlot PC
