SPTC News e-update

March 2014
Welcome to our March newsletter – we’re busy over here at SPTC with preparations for our 2014 AGM and conference, Parents Working Together. To find out more about what we’ve got in store read on….
SPTC AGM
On 22 March we’re holding our AGM. As SPTC members we would love to see you there and to hear anything that’s on your mind. We’re proposing changes to our Constitution and Memorandum & Articles this year and want to find out what you think. It’s also the chance for you to nominate a director – or even consider standing! Find out more on our website.

Conference 2014
We’re also busy preparing for our conference – we’ve got an exciting range of parent led workshops, including recruiting head teachers, using social media, supporting your child’s home learning and getting dads involved in school life. Member parents pay £10 which includes your lunch for the day – why not use parent council funds to pay for a delegate? You’ll come back with loads of fresh ideas and inspiration for your parent group. Find your registration form here

5 x 50 challenge starts 30 March!
5 x 50 is a charity challenge encouraging people to run, walk, jog or cycle 5K (or 30 minute exercise equivalent) every day for 50 days with the aim of changing long term exercise habits. This year 5×50 are extending the challenge to young people by asking school communities to get involved. All proceeds from registration fees go towards Sport Relief and after that you can fundraise for any charity you choose! They’ve got loads of great ideas to make this challenge fun and enjoyable for youngsters – why don’t you check out our website for details?

Flushed with Success
Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People are continuing their research about the quality of school toilets for young people. They want to find out the opinions of parents and carers of children with disabilities or long term health problems. Your opinions will be taken policy makers, support organisations, young people and schools and will help the discussion on how to achieve change so if you would like to take part in the survey please follow this link.

Easyfundraising Special

Raise free funds for your PC/PTA while you shop online

We’ve teamed up with easyfundraising to help provide you with a free, highly effective tool to raise money for you PC/PTAs.
easyfundraising is the UK’s leading good-cause shopping site, and it has helped UK educational groups raise an impressive £1.5 million.

In addition to helping our members raise funds, easyfundraising.org.uk will also pay SPTC an extra 20% on top of all funds raised by member Parent Council and PTA groups, helping SPTC to continue in our unique role and strengthen our services to parents and carers across Scotland.  We think this is a win-win for both our members and SPTC.

The easyfundraising.org.uk site is quick and easy to use. Quite simply, whenever a supporter is shopping online they login to easyfundraising.org.uk and start shopping with over 2,700 retailers. Every purchase generates a donation for their chosen Parent Council or PTA group from the retailer.

We’ve made our easy fundraising page accessible from our website and will be promoting it via our social media over the coming weeks but we’d be grateful if you could share this information too. You can access the page here
