Castlehill Primary’s Eco-group is proud to display the school’s fourth green flag, awarded by Eco-Schools Scotland. Over the past two years the school has been very busy investigating the three chosen topics of Waste Minimisation, the School Grounds and Litter as part of the Eco-Schools Programme. ‘Smileawi’ at DPS
Nigel and Victoria Milne were delighted to be invited along to Dunoon Primary School to talk to P4- P7 about their adventures in Malawi. They showed the children a slideshow and told them about the work that the Raven Trust does in Malawi. They told them about rural poverty and the difficulties facing the local people also telling them a little bit about the water projects and the wonderful work that they saw Mary’s Meals doing. TOBERMORY MILK BOTTLE IGLOO
As part of our Polar Land topic, we built an igloo made from milk bottles.
We collected over 200 and washed them very carefully. Our parents helped glue the bottles together.

Club Golf at Dalintober PS.
Primary 5 pupils at Dalintober PS have been receiving Club Golf lessons from our Active Schools Co-ordinator, Lindsay Ramsay. Pupils are enjoying the sessions and are learning techniques to help them when they hit the local golf courses! The search for the 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Poster has begun!
The Fringe Schools Poster Competition is open to all Scottish students aged 5 – 16. We are looking for a unique and eye-catching poster design that represents the variety and vibrancy of the Fringe – the rest is up to you.

Road Safety Classroom Calendar Competition Winners.
Lochnell pupils from Primary Six and Primary Four were thrilled to receive certificates for their eye-catching entries for the annual Road Safety Classroom Calendar Competition.
Polar Lands…..
Tobermory P1/2 have recently been on a polar adventure. With the help of their parents, they collected over 200 milk bottles to create their very own igloo. The children have also enjoyed being polar explorers. At base camp Antarctica they prepare food for themselves and their huskies, battle with hungry polar bears and venture outdoors to the mystical Ice Palace. The children also enjoyed enacting the true story of Balto-the hero husky with Alasdair McCrone -artistic director of Mull Theatre.
Winter Festival Art Competition Prize Winners!
Two delighted primary four pupils from Lochnell School receive their prize for their winning entries in the Oban Winter Festival art competition. They won gift vouchers for Alba art store for their fabulous steam train drawing and model.
Brownies and Guides at DPS
Peverley McChlery, Girlguiding Cowal District Commissioner attended morning assembly on 9th January 2013. She told the children a brief history of the Scout and Guide Movement. The fact they were both over 100 years old, and that Lord Robert Baden-Powell an army officer had originally decided in 1907 that boys and young men may enjoy an organisation where they could do many outdoor activities, like camping, tracking and learning how to live off the land. Stable Manners at Strone.
Strone Primary School’s recent performance of the Musical Nativity, “Stable Manners” was a huge success thanks to the hard work of the children, staff and Parent Council. The children brought their characters alive for the audience who tapped their toes to the lively music and catchy songs. Thanks to the hard work of the Parent Council and the local community we were able to hold the two performances in the Highgate Hall in Strone which ensured a well supported community event. Many thanks to all those who gave their support in donating lighting, sound equipment, haybales, props, cleaning materials and elbow grease! It was very much appreciated.

Christmas at Dalmally
The children at Dalmally took part in a whirlwind of exciting events in December. They kicked things off with a “Holly Tea” in early December, followed last week by a super Christmas performance. The younger children took part in the nativity production told through the eyes of the “Little Red Robin”, while the older children performed songs based on “Christmas Around the World”. Rothesay Primary Nativity
Rothesay Primary celebrated Christmas together at the United Church of Bute on 21st December. Primary 7 welcomed parents, carers, family and friends by singing carols while Primary 1 got ready. Then, we smiled as in came Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, angels and the innkeeper and his wife – with many travellers – all waving when they saw someone they knew! Farewell Mrs Pierson
Our last day of term has been a very sad day for all of us at Strone Primary School. We had a wonderful end of term Christmas Assembly in Strone Church, but had to say a very sad farewell to our lovely Mrs Pierson. She will be greatly missed by children and staff alike.
She has been an inspiration to us all, keeping us on our toes with her enthusiasm, dedication, kindly ways and wicked wit!! We wish both her and her husband a very happy and adventurous retirement.
Cinderella Rockerfella at Kirn Primary
A huge congratulations to all the cast and crew of the upper school for their outstanding production of “Cinderella Rockerfella” last night. Every pupil in P5, 6 and 7 played an important role as an actor, singer or stage crew. Very well done and thanks especially to those pupils working backstage for keeping everything moving smoothly.

Successful Christmas Concert in Salen
On Monday 19th December Salen Primary held its Christmas Concert. The evening started with the Pre-5 & Sgoil Araich children singing Rinn sinn bodach sneachd an-diugh followed by Jingle Bells. They sang really well and would have kept singing all night given half a chance!
The boys and girls from school then performed Away with the Manger, a hilarious play about Jewel thieves breaking into a school and causing chaos at the nativity. The audience loved the show and said it was the best yet. The night raised over £450 for school funds. Thanks to all the pupils, staff and volunteers for all their hard work. Barcaldine Primary Christmas Party
Barcaldine Primary School had their Christmas Party on Thursday 21st December. We all got dressed up into our sparkly and smart clothes – even the teachers were dressed to impress! We had an awesome buffet to start with and then we moved onto lots of party games. We had lots and lots of fun and we were joined by some Pre-5 children from our village. We were so good this year that even Santa managed to fit us in his busy schedule.
Primary Schools Join Forces for Annual Nativity
Barcaldine and Ardchattan Primary schools joined forces this year for their annual nativity performances in St Modans Church, Benderloch! The nativity was called ‘It takes a Village’ which we thought was rather appropriately named. Our Primary 7 pupils chose their own parts and then helped in the process of picking all the other characters. Every child had a significant role to play and there was plenty of hilarity – the nativity was all in rhyme and there was joyful singing.
The silver collection at the door raised just over £50 and the children selected ‘Help for Heroes’ as their chosen charity this year.
