Donation to Raven Trust
Strachur Primary P6-7 have donated proceeds from selling a school newspaper to a local charity that supports communities in Malawi. They also sold second hand school uniforms, making their total donation up to £70. The money will be used to purchase jotters and pens for school children across Malawi. Mr Challis from the Raven Trust was very thankful for the donation and promised to come back with photographs from his trip next year. Annie and Tommi (house captains) are pictured presenting the cheque to Mr Challis.

Anti-Bullying Week at Strachur Primary
Pupils at Strachur Primary invited parents, carers and other family members into school on Friday of last week to share what we had been learning about Anti-Bullying. Visitors popped into classes to see our hard work, were asked to give their view on ‘bullying’ and asked how they feel staff at Strachur Primary should respond to it. This information will contribute towards the creation of a new Anti-Bullying Policy for Strachur Primary.
Small Schools Football Festival
On Thursday 5th November Active Schools in partnership with Strachur Primary School ran a football festival for P4 and P5 pupils from the smaller primary schools within Cowal, at Strachur Park. The event was well attended with teams from Strachur, Strone, Tighnabruaich, Lochgoilhead and Kilmodan Primary Schools. The competition was based on a round robin with all the teams playing each other. The pupils were all very excited as for many this would be their first competitive football playing against other schools.

Send My Friend To School.
On Wednesday 17th of June, Tam Baillie – the Scottish Commissioner for Children and Young People – came to visit Strachur Primary School. Primary 4/5 asked him to come to our school because they have been doing a very interesting topic on the ‘Rights of The Child’ and learning about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of The Child (UNCRC).

Croftastic!
Tighnabruaich, Toward and Strachur Primary schools had an amazing day at Strachur Memorial Hall taking part in a Crofting Connections day.
There were various activities such as felting, quilting and willow and paper weaving. We enjoyed tasting fish and sea food and learning about the salmon’s life-cycle. We found out how to ‘waulk’ the cloth, card wool, use drop spindles, weave, and learned lots of sheep and wool facts. Continue reading crofting connections Strachur
Social Enterprise Assembly at Strachur Primary
P6/7 presented their assembly to the rest of the school, parents and carers and our special guest, Mrs Sue Challis, from The Raven Trust. The class were very pleased to present Mrs Challis with a cheque for £89.65 which will help support a school in Malawi, through The Raven Trust Charity. The class raise this money through their social enterprise activities – producing and selling our school newspaper and selling second-hand school uniforms. 10% of the profit from the newspaper and all the proceeds from the second-hand uniform sales go to charity.
The theme of our assembly was greed and the children acted out a play based on the television programme, Deal or No Deal. Continue reading Social Enterprise Assembly at Strachur Primary
Strachur Primary does ‘The Good Old Days’
As part of our ongoing centenary celebrations, we produced a show called ‘The Good Old Days’ . Children sang old time music hall songs, baffled the audience with magic tricks, entertained with various circus acts and showed off their gymnastic skills, all ably compered by two enterprising P6 girls.
Look out Ant and Dec!
To look the part the children dressed in their 1912 outfits and parents and carers were delighted to see so many confident, enthusiastic performers!
Strachur Primary Centenary Celebrations
Strachur Primary is celebrating its centenary this year.
We’ve been learning about the history of the village and enjoyed a walk in the past, suitably dressed in our 1912 outfits, which the Strachur History Society made for us. We also visited Scotland Street Museum. We’re glad we go to school in 2012!
We invited former pupils to share their memories, good and bad, of their days at school and we enjoyed showing them how we learn now. Continue reading Strachur Primary Centenary Celebrations
