Little Red Riding Hood called on her friends from Fairytale Land to put on a Nativity Show. She played the part of Mary, Goldilocks was Gabriel, the Three Little Pigs were the wise men and the innkeeper was the big bad wolf! Castlehill’s Primary one and two children dressed as characters from Fairytale Land and entertained a packed hall with this amusing Christmas musical.

Celtic Connections at Castlehill
Primary 4 had a fantastic time at Campbeltown Museum recently. In order to conclude their topic on The Celts they visited the museum to look at the exhibition on Celts. They were shown round the museum by the curator and Primary 4 were also lucky enough to meet an archaeologist who told them about archaeology in Kintyre. Thank you to the staff at Campbeltown Museum.

Pupils in Castlehill Primary had a busy week carrying out various activities to help raise money for Children In Need.
On Tuesday the P7s held an ‘All Day Beetle Drive’ where they invited each of the classes in the school to play ‘Beetle’. Great fun was had by all!

Preschool Transition at Castlehill Primary
A busy calendar of activities has been planned at Castlehill to ensure that transition from Campbeltown Nursery to Primary 1 is a supported,positive process. Primary 1 have enjoyed going back to visit the nursery,especially using the outdoor area! Mrs Reid, Primary 1 class teacher, is also visiting the nursery weekly to work with the pre- schoolers, getting to know them in their own environment.

Beetle Mania at Castlehill Primary
On Wednesday the 4th February Castlehill’s P7s held a Beetle Drive in the gym hall. All the classes came for a half hour to play games of Beetle. On Tuesday the P7s went round the classes and showed them how to play Beetle. Every pupil paid 50p and the total amount raised was £82.22 and will go towards the P7 trips to Ardentinny and Edinburgh.
Castlehill Primary visit Muneroy Tearooms
P7 pupils from Castlehill Primary recently visited Muneroy Tearooms as part of their work leading up to the Kintyre Fun Food Festival event which will take place in CGS on the evening of Wednesday 19th November. The class had read of Francis and Ian’s success at the Scottish Baking Awards. Fifteen pupils travelled down to Southend to present them with a “Congratulations” card and to interview Francis herself.

: P2 Open Afternoon at Castlehill
Primary 2 presented the story of ‘Little Moon’ to their parents at an Open Afternoon on Friday. All the children took an active part in this presentation and proudly showed their parents all that they had been learning throughout this Day/Night/Space Topic. Parents then had the opportunity to look around the classroom and open area at all the work covered in this Interdisciplinary Topic before sampling some of the Alien snacks the children had made.
P2 Pupils from Castlehill visit local Co-op
Primary 2 from Castlehill Primary School enjoyed a visit from the Co-op who talked about the environment and Fairtrade Products and the children entered a Green schools Competition. Their Eco pictures were displayed in the foyer of the Co-op during the Easter holidays.
The children then visited the Co-op and would like to thank the staff for their kind donation of seeds and compost for their school garden and also for the Easter treats.
Happy Healthy Me
“Primary 1 children in Castlehill invited Campbeltown Nursery to join them for a “Happy Healthy Me” morning.
Everyone had taster sessions in Yoga Bugs, Mini Kickers and Keep Fit. Louise, the school nurse, also spoke to the children about keeping their hearts healthy. A fruit kebab healthy snack was enjoyed by all.”
Sleeping Beauty at Castlehill Primary
Last Thursday Castlehill’s P1 and P2 children thoroughly enjoyed entertaining a very large gathering of parents and friends with a musical production of Sleeping Beauty. Cooks, maids, guards, gardeners, thorns, village people, fairies – both good and bad, members of the royal family and a handsome prince all took to the stage to tell the well-known fairy story.
Smoke Free Me
Castlehill’s P7s joined up with other local schools on Monday 28th Oct at Dalintober Primary to take part in the Smoke Free Me presentation performed by Raenbow Productions. The children have been learning about the effects of smoking recently and this was the culmination of their work. The pupils had a great time interacting with the drama group and highlighting the alarming, but true, facts they had discovered about the consequences of becoming a smoker.
Castlehill Primary School Visit to Kintyre Recycling Ltd
Children from P5/6 recently visited Kintyre Recycling Ltd as part of their current Topic. They were shown what happens to the items that they collect in school to be recycled. They thoroughly enjoyed their tour of the plant and once back at school they worked in their cooperative groups to create models of the various recycling machines. These were then displayed in the classroom. Recycling is a large part of the Eco activities at Catlehill Primary School.
Burns Supper at Castlehill Primary School
As part of their Topic “Scotland’s Influence on the World”, primary 5/6 have been studying the literature of Robert Burns and on Friday 25th January they held a Burns Supper in their class. All the children were involved and enthusiastically volunteered to recite poems, sing, dance or serve the meal of haggis, neeps and tatties, followed by shortbread. Castlehill Primary – 4th Green Flag
Castlehill Primary’s Eco-group is proud to display the school’s fourth green flag, awarded by Eco-Schools Scotland. Over the past two years the school has been very busy investigating the three chosen topics of Waste Minimisation, the School Grounds and Litter as part of the Eco-Schools Programme. Nativity Play at Castlehill
Friday 14th December was a very special afternoon in Castlehill Primary. Primary 1 and Primary 2 delighted family and friends with their excellent and well rehearsed Nativity Play. Expertly narrated by 5 of our Primary 2 pupils, the story unfolded to a hushed and very appreciative audience. Angels sang, stars shone, shepherds tended their flock, wise men found their way, and Mary, Joseph and their new baby were cosy in the stable. Road Safety Calendar Competition
The monthly assembly at Castlehill Primary included a very special presentation with regards to the Argyll & Bute Road Safety Calendar Competition. Mrs June Graham and Mrs Kay McGhee , from the Road Safety Unit, travelled to Campbeltown and gave the whole school a talk and slide show which let the children who had a winning entry see their pictures on “the big screen”. Castlehill Primary Christmas Craft Fayre
Castlehill Primary held their annual Christmas Craft Fayre on Wednesday 5th December in the school commencing at 1pm. A wonderful selection of crafts, which were made by the children, was on sale. Our little angels in P1/2 made their own angels which just “flew” off the counters. There were also various stalls including bottle stall, raffle and delicious home baking, all of which was donated by parents, friends, grandparents and staff. By 1.15pm the hall was filling up and the crafts were selling like hot cakes. Tea, coffee and shortbread were served by our PTA who kindly came in to school to help. Fundraising Fun at Castlehill for Children in Need
Castlehill Primary enjoyed a variety of fun filled activities to raise funds for Children in Need. Primary 6/7 kicked off the fundraising with a Halloween party. An enterprising brother and sister duo, Caitlynne and Craig, bought cake mixes and created Pudsey and Blush masterpieces which they used for a raffle.
