GROWING OUR OWN AT OHS SUPPORT DEPARTMENT!
In October 2012 we took charge of a supersized poly tunnel which was erected in the grounds of Glencruitten Hostel. This was the first step in our plan to grow and sell produce to parents, staff and the hostel kitchen! In our Tech classes we have made six raised beds for the tunnel and plan to make more for outside. We have planted potatoes, onions, herbs and blackcurrants so far and have also been improving the hostel grounds by planting hedges and trees!

Total Green School Awards 2013
The pupils and staff at Lochdonhead Primary School are delighted to hear that they are the winners of the Totally Active category for Scotland in the Total Green School Awards 2013. Our entry was about all the work we have done in our school grounds over the last year. We had to decide what we wanted to do with our grounds, work out how to achieve it, and we have ended up with a ‘story glen’ based on an old Gaelic tale ‘Iolaire Loch Treig’.

Achaleven’s Pop-Up Plant Stall
We have been busy growing plants from seed in the school garden and they have done so well we thought we would sell our extra ones! Thanks to Rosie at Connel Village Store, we had a pop-up plant stall on Friday outside the shop, where plants were available for sale (payment by donation to a box in the shop).
They are mostly tomato plants but there are a few pepper and cucumber plants as well.

Macbeth at Kilmodan Primary School
Last week Kilmodan Primary School had another successful tearoom. We have been running a tearoom for the last three years. This year we are raising money for our school to go to Edinburgh for two days. While we are there we will be going to the zoo, Edinburgh Castle and we hope to go to the cinema. The children do home baking for every tearoom and serve the tea and coffee. It is a great time for the whole community to get together.

As long ago as 1988, when Mrs Lesley Clark, Principal Teacher of German and French in Dunoon Grammar School, applied for funding to start an Exchange with Germany, she could never have imagined that she would still be organising the same Exchange in 2013.
Car Boot Sale at Dalmally Mart
“Dalmally, Taynuilt and Kilchrenan Primary Schools held a wonderful Car Boot Sale on Saturday at Dalmally Mart, raising over £1118 for their annual p6/7 trip to Lcohgoilhead. The sun shone on the ‘car boots’ and the stalls (causing some of the icing to slip off the cakes on the baking stall!) and a great time was had by all. The local fire brigade came along to help with the Car Wash, there was a Bottle Stall, Raffle and Baking stall as well as activities such as ‘Throw the Wet Sponge’ and a Duck Race.”

BAG2SCHOOL IN TOBERMORY
Tobermory High School had a fantastic response to their Bag2school collection. A total of 110 bags of textiles were donated on the day to raise funds for the school, This is a great effort from our small school. Pupils have really embraced the challenge to beat last year’s collection total. In doing so they have helped to reduce items going to landfill and helped to contribute to the “sustainability” topic of the eco schools programme.
Minard’s Duck Derby
The children at Minard Primary organised and ran a Duck Derby on the last day of term. They sold ‘ducks’ at a £1 each and raised £295 for school funds!
They had written to local businesses around Inveraray asking for donations for the prizes and received some wonderful ones for which we are very grateful.
The children at Furnace Primary joined in the fun. This was after we had celebrated a joint Easter service at Minard church and a buffet lunch at the school.
