School Grounds Day at St Joseph’s

Friday 22 November 2013 was a fantastic day at St. Joseph’s in Helensburgh as parents, pupils and staff joined forces to clean up and plant new life in the school grounds. Everyone from Pre-5 children to adults was involved in various activities throughout the morning. The Pre-5 and infant children were involved in sweeping leaves, picking up litter, weeding and planting flowers and trees whilst the eldest of these children (P3) cleaned up the outdoor classroom and got involved in raking and creating hanging baskets.

ECO DAY AT KILCREGGAN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Last Thursday Kilcreggan Primary and Pre-5 pupils took part in an Eco Day. Parents and friends were also invited along to help. Activities included; weaving where pupils cut strips from old carrier bags and weaved them through the School fence, kite making, a treasure hunt in the School garden where pupils had to find leaves, insects, plants that matched a colour chart, decorating bird nesting boxes, amking bird feeders and listening to the sounds around us. As you can see from the pictures we all had a great day, despite the weather!

Sandbank Primary School – Act of Remembrance

On Monday the 11th of November 2013 Sandbank Primary School’s senior pupils in mainstream and Gaelic held an Armistice Service attended by the junior pupils, pre-five unit and staff. The older children had all walked down to the War Memorial at Lazaretto Point the previous week and researched the history behind it. They discovered plaques from both the 1st and 2nd World Wars detailing the names and roles of local men who lost their lives in conflict.

Southend Children In Need

On Friday, pupils and staff from Southend Primary and Pre-5 Unit raised £100.38 for Children in Need by dressing up in their onesies and pyjamas, organising a talent show and setting up a variety of stalls. Headteacher, Mrs Ronald, particularly enjoyed throwing wet sponges at the big boys in her class! The school cook, Mrs Campbell, made us some lovely Pudsey biscuits too. Great fun was had by all. Later on Friday night, Mrs Bannatyne took the school choir to perform at a local charity concert. Well done everyone for such a good effort. Continue reading Southend Children In Need

Children in Need – £972.04 raised by Rothesay Primary

Rothesay Primary School and pre-5 Centre dressed in their pyjamas yesterday and sold Pudsey wrist bands and keyrings. The Primary 7 class organised a Bring & Buy Sale, Pudsey Raffle and did Pudsey Face Painting all day and the total we raised for Children in Need was an impressive £972.04! (Some people donated today as we had a few wristbands left!)

We are all very proud and look forward to tuning in tonight 🙂

Norwegian Study Visit to Colgrain

On 28th October 2013 Colgrain Primary School was selected by Nick Morgan from Education Scotland to host nineteen Norwegian teachers on a study visit to Scotland. The Norwegian visitors had a particular interest in Assessment is for Learning and in the Early level concept of Curriculum for Excellence. Colgrain Primary has a very successful approach to formative assessment and the Norwegian visitors were particularly interested in our communication with home and our celebration of pupil’s wider achievement.

Pre-5 and P7 work together at Appin

‘The Primary 7 and pre-5 pupils at Strath of Appin school have been busy foraging berries along the local cycle track, learning about what berries you can eat and those that can be used to make jellies. Their efforts resulted in a sale of jellies that were made from the fruits picked. There were a variety of jellies such as rowan, hedgerow and bramble. £43.28 was raised and has been placed in school funds for future use. This project has developed from a pilot scheme where the P7’s meet with the pre 5 children every week, encouraging learning, developing good friendships, mentoring and building confidence all round.’

St Joseph’s Pre-5 Unit Open Day

A wonderful day was had by all as St. Joseph’s Pre-5 Unit opened their doors to all the parents of the school as well as the Pre-5 Unit last week. The recent new development to the school comprises a lovely, brand new, state-of-the Art Pre-5 Unit and all the local parents are delighted with this new service being provided on the school premises. The modern, ‘natural look’ theme is obvious throughout with beautiful new resources for the very lucky children who attend here.

Port Ellen Pre Five, Our trip to the finlaggan

This term at Port Ellen Pre Five Unit Christopher, Caillin, William, Connor, Katyn, Robyn, Phoenix and Dylan have been reading the fantastic Katie Morag books by Mairi Hederwick. They say;
We love the books and have decided to learn about floating and sinking, ferry boats and we’ve been comparing our lives on Islay to Katie Morag’s on Struay. We have even made our own ferries with help from Caillin’s dad Donald.

Global Citizenship and IDL at St. Joseph’s, Helensburgh

Assembly at St. Joseph’s Primary School in Helensburgh this morning was a well attended affair. The children of P2a demonstrated beautifully their learning from their Interdisciplinary Learning Study ‘Handa’s Surprise’ to the whole school (including Pre-5) and to a vast array of proud parents. A plethora of educational experience was in evidence from the creativity of Curriculum for Excellence to the evidenced planned partnership with the local links to the Nora Docherty school in Malawi.

Litter Pick – Lochgilphead Primary Pre-5 Unit

The children at Lochgilphead Primary Pre-5 Unit are currently working towards raising funds to purchase iPads for the nursery and to boost their funds they recently took part in a litter pick along the path towards Kilmory Castle. They very quickly became expert users of the litter pickers and were shocked when they managed to collect three large bags of litter from along the path!

Dunoon Primary Pre-5 get new uniforms!

Dunoon Primary pre-5 children are delighted with their new uniforms! Parents and children chose the colour and Emma Murray, who is now in Primary one, designed the “Rainbow Mountain” logo, which was used to decorate the nursery corridor. Well done Emma!

Lochgilphead Joint Campus Head Boy and Girl

Lochgilphead Joint Campus provides a safe and relaxing environment which gives us many opportunities to learn through academic and extra-curricular activities for pupils of all ages.

‘Raising the Bar in Core Physical Education’

Early Years and Primary Practioners….. you are invited to ‘Raising the Bar In Core Physical Education in Argyll and Bute’ on Saturday 21st September in Inveraray Primary School, 9.30am for 10.00am till 3.30pm.
The day will include finding out about the ‘Significant Aspects of Core PE’ and practical workshops in Better Movers, Better Thinkers (BMT), Athletics, ‘ Let’s Move’, Athletics, PE in the Outdoors, ICT in PE.

Clyde begins his tour of Scotland at Colgrain

On 19th August, Colgrain Primary School celebrated tickets going on sale for the Commonwealth Games, with a visit from Clyde the Glasgow 2014 Mascot.
Colgrain were joined by Clyde on the first day of the schools tour, for an afternoon of fun learning about the games. Colgrain were also joined by Clyde’s friends Susan Eglestaff the Badminton player who represented Great Britain in the 2012 Summer Olympics and David Carry, the swimmer who won two gold medals in the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Kilmartin’s amazing coloured potatoes!!

It’s great to start the new school year with exciting news! Kilmartin Primary’s Early level class grew some amazing coloured potatoes in our garden and this summer the potatoes won 1st prize in their category at the Mid Argyll Agricultural Show.The potatoes are a dark purple all the way through. Later in September, the school will be holding a vegetable sale with all of our garden produce and, of course, we will be making some very tasty soup! Port Ellen Pre 5 Units Beautiful Butterflies

The children in Port Ellen Pre 5 unit have been very busy looking after some exciting new pets from our donated butterfly farm. The children transferred all the knowledge and skills that they have gained during our minibeast topic and used this to take care of our butterflies. We were all very excited when our tiny caterpillars arrived through the post. During the week they ate more and more and they grew very big and very fat – just like The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
