What a beautiful day for a “Special Lunch”. Kilcreggan Primary School held it’s Jubilee Lunch outside today. The sun shone and everybody enjoyed a lovely buffet. Our thanks go to Mrs Reid and Mrs Stewart our Catering staff for preparing such a superb feast and decorating the the tables to make the day so special.

In July last year Amy from Campbeltown Grammar school, saw her Scottish design become a winner of the Get Set London 2012 design competition. Amy’s creation has become an official regional version of “Mandeville”, the London 2012 Mascot.
We now have some more brilliant news! Glasgow City Council is going to construct a 6ft sculpture of the Scottish Mandeville as part of its City Look Programme to decorate the city ready for the London 2012 Games!
The sculpture will be built near one of two central stations but the exact location is yet to be decided. A similar Wenlock sculpture will be built at one of the two stations and the pieces will welcome visitors to Glasgow and celebrate Scotland’s role in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

An exhibition was held recently in Oban’s Corran Halls celebrating the artwork and music created during the CAST project ‘Composition to Exhibition’. The project involved secondary art and music pupils from Islay, Tiree, Bute, Mull and Oban and the theme was tidal energy. . The exhibition featured fabric art, stained glass, printing and collage as well as original soundtracks from each school. The project was funded by Argyll & Bute Council and ‘Scotland’s Islands’. Primary 7 pupils at St. Columba’s Primary School in Oban have been announced as one of four winners of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall’s competition inviting schools to create a special Diamond Jubilee menu for The Queen. The prize winning team of Samantha Parkinson, Jessica Swan, Rebecca Campbell, Nathan Allan, Jack Forgrieve, Lucy Anderson, Niamh MacKenzie and Robert Krolikowski will travel to Buckingham Palace on 15 June to see their recipes prepared by the Royal Chef and will help serve the Queen and the Duchess of Cornwall at a special reception. Primary 6, Dalintober Primary School, entertained P1 and P2 pupils with a performance starring the Mac Scarecrow puppets.
All the children in the class had written scripts based on the Mac Scarecrows. They peer assessed the scripts and decided which play should be performed. “The Mac Scarecrow Clan is Rich” was chosen and performed to great acclaim from their audiences.
The whole class were involved in some way and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Rosneath Primary School visited the Titan Crane recently. We would highly recommend going. As you can see some of us did not look that keen to be going way up there but we did it! Can you imagine the size of some of those vessels that were lifted? The weather was against us that day – wet, freezing cold and windy – but we soldiered on. The guides were great and we had an interactive World War 2 workshop using the Smart board. This was linked to our Interdisciplinary Study of the Second World War with a particular focus on the Clydebank Blitz. Continue reading UP THE TITAN CRANE, CLYDEBANK
Rosneath Primary School were very excited to be taking part in this annual Tournament at the Lomond Sports Hall in Helensburgh. We played against teams from other Helensburgh and Peninsula schools. We were DELIGHTED that our little school won a Bronze medal. We played our hearts out and everyone is SO proud of us. Our joint Team Captains look so happy and the main point of the evening was that everyone had great fun meeting up together and cheering each other on. Seeing a gap in the market, Primary 3 & 4, along with their teacher Mrs Carmichael, from Tobermory High School decided to embark on an enterprising interdisciplinary project and write their very own Mull & Iona Activity Book. This was designed for locals as well as visiting children to buy when they come to the Island. The full colour book is very informative and contains lots of fun activities for children to enjoy. It tells the reader many facts about the island they are visiting, including the history and wildlife of Mull as well as key events going on throughout the year. On Saturday 12th May our Parents’ Association held a Fun Day in the School grounds. We had games, stalls and a visit from the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Unit from Faslane together with our local Fire Brigade. There were teas & cakes in the School Hall and a great afternoon of fun was had by all.

P6 pupils Amy Paterson, Millar Irwin and Nicola McKerral from Castlehill Primary in Campbeltown, walked, jogged and ran 3 miles round the school to raise funds for McMillan Cancer Care. Iona Primary School pupils have been celebrated for their wonderful work in contributing to the island’s very special tourism economy. All of Iona is magical, but the focal point for most visitors must be the magnificent abbey, which is seen to best effect under the expert guidance of Iona’s knowledgeable Junior Tour Guides!
Primary 5 at Dalintober have recently completed an Interdisciplinary topic about Scotland ‘s landscape. The subject was introduced through Chocolate Geography which used various bars of chocolate to show how the world is made up out of 3 types of rock. The idea we used was supplied by The National Parks, Loch Lomond. We investigated the three main areas in Scotland by using websites, games and videos. We used Google Maps to find places in Scotland and marked them on a large map along with some pictures. This formed a quiz for other pupils. Castlehill Primary were this year’s winners of the Baldy Cup football trophy. Teams from South Kintyre primary schools all took part – a great time was had by all. Weather stayed dry!!! Looking forward to Millennium Cup to be held in June.
WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH
On Friday afternoon the whole school took part in a beach clean of our adopt a beach Leodamus Bay in Port Ellen. It was a lovely if windy afternoon, and the tide was very far out so we were able to access parts of the beach we do not normally manage, and gather a large quantity of rubbish. Apart from the usual suspects such as tyres and plastic string, we also cleared an old umbrella, boat rudder and half a canoe. Polly Mather, the Islay and Jura beach ranger, was there to help and provide the bags. In total we collected half a tonne of rubbish, earning the school a donation of £110 from REJIG.
