This week in problem solving, we were given a pile of newspaper and a roll of sellotape. In two groups, pupils had to create Redcoat or Jacobite weapons, ready to use in drama. The problem solving skills needed to be successful were ‘guess, check and improve’ and ‘working together’.

P5/6/7 get ready for their showcase event
This week we have been finishing off displays for our showcase afternoon. We worked on drawing crowds of redcoats and Jacobites, having watched a video that showed us how to achieve a simple but effective drawing of crowds of people.
We have started bringing in our models of houses – all different shapes and sizes but all amazing!
In PE, we have been working on our badminton skills, which three of us put into practice at a badminton tournament at Bathgate Academy on Sunday. Well done Levi, Zach and Kian!
A week in Primary 5/6/7
The Jacobite topic is taking shape in P5/6/7, with several displays going up and lots of facts being shared in fact files! Our next step will be to decide on the activities our guests can take part in when they come to our Showcase Afternoon on the 17th March.
Ryan shared photographs of his house being renovated and we were amazed to find out it was built in the time of the Jacobites. We have used the photographs to help us decide on the design of our blackhouse wall in class.
The P7 boys have started to create their life-size canon!
‘It’s messy work but it will look good in the end. It is jet black.’ – Baillie, Willian and Luke.
Gardeners needed!
Part of the requirements to achieve our Eco Schools green flag award is to make good use of the school grounds and to grow some of our own veg, as well as maintaining the garden areas. To do this, we need volunteers to help the committee. If you have green fingers and can maybe spare a couple of hours one morning or afternoon, please contact Ms Ferguson. Thank you!!
Nursery Wednesday 25th November
There’s a very festive feel permeating the nursery at the moment! We made more personalised baubles as well as lovely button wreath tree decorations that will be on sale at the school Christmas fair. We also practised our nativity songs and are all doing so well with the words and actions!
The weather stayed dry, so both morning and afternoon children managed to have plenty of time to play outside in the fresh air. There were also some kind volunteers in the afternoon who helped us clean the slide and house with warm soapy water! What responsible young citizens they were!
We had a call from Asda Armadale today to say that the nursery has been nominated for their Green Token Fundraising scheme! So, if you are in there shopping, remember to pick up a token and add it to our box as we could win up to £200 for outdoor equipment! Fingers crossed!

Nursery: Wednesday 11th November
Today, there were airports being constructed in the sand pit, and the boats and Lego men in the water tray were helped to be more buoyant by adding balloons to them! This led to lots of science talk! We managed to get outside today, with chalk and mud being popular, especially in the afternoon.
The nativity scripts have been sent home, with words highlighted so you know what to practise at home! We also sent home order forms for personalised baubles, which can be ordered now. If these could be returned with payment as soon as possible, we can begin this enterprise project.
Nursery: Tuesday 10th November
Today, morning and afternoon children went outside in the blustery wind to practise safe road crossing. As well as showing that they knew how to cross the road safely (holding an adult’s hand, looking left and right, listening carefully all the time) they also enjoyed taking a close up look at a car – focussing on the hard metal and rubber tyres.
Nursery: Tuesday 3rd November
Some of the morning boys and girls were playing with plastic balls in the water tray, which led to a great discussion about what things might float and what might sink. Several different objects were brought to the water tray to try out, with a few surprising finds! This scientific exploration continued in the afternoon and so we decided we should explore more tomorrow with a wider selection of objects.
In the morning, outdoor play was spent in the glorious sunshine while afternoon outdoor play was shrouded in fog! The children loved the fact that, when they breathed out, they could see their breath and this led to their being several dragons running around outside! One lovely description of the weather was that it made everything look ‘soft’!
At group time we continued to practise our nativity songs. We are now on to song number 3!!
