Stroop Test Challenge in P5

P5 have been preparing for their Joseph performance and have been linking this to other areas of our learning.

In the story Joseph is given a coat of many colours, so in Science we tested out an experiment with colours.

Did you know, in 1935 John Ridly Stroop invented the ‘Stroop task’?   This was all about naming colours. First a number of colours were projected onto a screen in their own colour, and then in a different colour. People were asked to name the colours the words were printed in.

We timed each other reading both sets of words and found that our brains work slower when the colour you have to name has been used to print the name of a different colour!

How quickly can you read them?

P7 Prepare for Joseph

In P7 this week we designed a poster that will be used to promote our upcoming performances of Joseph and the Technicoloured Dream Coat. We considered what information was required, how we would ensure we had an eye-catching layout and included photographs that grabbed the reader’s attention. If you’re lucky enough to be attending, see how many of the posters you can spot around school!

P5 Visit Sky Academy

Primary 5 took an exciting trip to The Sky Academy Studios.

Each of us were given an important role (Director, Producer, Scriptwriter, Reporter, Eyewitness, Camera Operator, Editor) within our studio groups. We all worked very hard as a team, to create a fantastic news report about Fake News and how to prevent it.

It was a great opportunity to work with experts and high-tech equipment. What great fun we had!

P6 Successful Learners

Primary 6 enjoyed watching their introduction to their science topic: Solids, Liquids and Gases. The scientists on YouTube have asked the pupils to investigate a variety of science based questions.
The pupils began creating their own experiments to change the state of a solid. We are excited to see our results when we conduct our experiments next week.

We also participated in West Lothian’s Euro Qui, with some of our pupils representing our class. They did an amazing job competing against other schools in West Lothian.

A Busy Time in P6/7

P6/7 have been working hard converting fractions and decimals to percentages, as well as finding percentages of numbers.  We were looking at real life examples and found some percentages on our milk and snack packaging.  We have also been finding fractions of different amounts.

Safer Internet Week

Safer Internet Day was officially on Tuesday 8th February this week, however we wanted to celebrate this for the whole week.

Across our classes this week pupils were learning more about staying safe online, particularly around this year’s theme, ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’. The Digital Leaders set assignments on TEAMS and SEESAW for everyone to complete.

We love PE and really enjoy when we have coaches in to take lessons, so much so we decided to take on the role of the coach ourselves for our PE session on Wednesday.

We worked our classmates hard!

P2/3 Dazzling Designers

This week in P2/3 the children were learning to design their own tartan as part of Burns day.

We discussed the role of a designer and why planning our ideas is important. We also discussed the importance the task and building our creativity skills.

Once they designed their own tartan, P2/3 had the opportunity to create  it, using a variety of materials chosen by them.
