This morning Primary 3 took part in a very wet outdoor learning session with Kids Gone Wild. We had fun exploring the woods, climbing trees and we bravely had a go at slacklining. We had the best time being wet, messy and outdoors!

P7 Visit to Heriot Watt
Primary 7 enjoyed a visit to Heriot Watt University where they had fun designing and testing their own parachutes, took part in fun activities to programme the Sphero bots and also learned more about life at University.
In January Primary 7 pupils took part in the Watt Box challenge, set by Heriot Watt University. The University staff challenged our P7’s to design a chariot which could travel 2 metres and be pushed or pulled by a Sphero Bot. The staff from Heriot Watt were so impressed with the enthusiasm and skills shown by the children, including their preparation and design process, and as a result Toronto Primary were chosen as the Inveralmond Cluster winners.  For being the winning ICHS cluster school Heriot Watt invited our P7 children to visit the university to take part in a variety of STEM based activities.
Flying Forces
Primary 5 are looking at forces in science.
Our challenge today was to design a parachute showing air resistance and gravity. This involved working in a small group, sharing ideas, testing parachutes and evaluating designs.
Trip to Forth Bridges Education Centre
Primary 4, Primary 3/4 and Primary 3 had a wonderful time at the Forth Bridges Education Centre today. We listened to a quick bridges and engineering presentation then completed an engineering challenge in groups. After lunch we walked across the Forth Road Bridge so the children could experience the scale and structure of the bridges. Well done everyone!

Victorian Inventions in P5/6
Building Castles
As part of P2’s interdisciplinary learning we focused on castles and this week we have been looking at the features of a castle.
As part of our technology outcomes we have planned and sketched our castles and selected the materials we would need to construct them.
We are in the early stages of building the castles but here are some pictures to show our progress so far.
P7B Inventors
Primary 7B have been learning about inventors during the Victorian Period. This week we learned about Alexander Graham Bell and the invention of the telephone. We then created our own paper cup telephones. We were so impressed with how well they worked!
STEM- Cup Challenge
Santa’s Den
P6/7 and P7 had a visit from Santa this week. Pupils worked together in groups to design and create a new mode of transport for Santa. Each group then had to pitch their design to Santa, explaining how their mode of transport was environmentally friendly , cost effective, how it moved, etc.
Santa was very impressed with our designs! Well done to Santa’s winning team!
