National Numeracy Day

As part of National Numeracy Day on 18th May children from P2/3, P3, P4/5, P6, P7/6 and P7 took part in an Official World Record Attempt for the most participation and views of Rolling Numbers Livestream.  We managed to break the record and 5, 362 schools took part.  Well done!
We also took part in Numbers and dancing with Katya Jones, where we learned dynamite dance moves.  We had to keep count of the steps .  It was great fun.   We thought about what we would like to be when we grow up and how we would use numbers in that job.  We created pictures of us doing our dream job or hobby and  how it uses numbers.
We had a great day.

Stroop Test Challenge in P5

P5 have been preparing for their Joseph performance and have been linking this to other areas of our learning.

In the story Joseph is given a coat of many colours, so in Science we tested out an experiment with colours.

Did you know, in 1935 John Ridly Stroop invented the ‘Stroop task’?   This was all about naming colours. First a number of colours were projected onto a screen in their own colour, and then in a different colour. People were asked to name the colours the words were printed in.

We timed each other reading both sets of words and found that our brains work slower when the colour you have to name has been used to print the name of a different colour!

How quickly can you read them?

Busy, Busy, Busy in P6/7!

P6/7 have been busy!
We have been rehearsing for our performance of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
In maths, we have been interpreting data from bar, line and pie charts.
We have been focussing on discussion writing and thinking of arguments for and against as well as our own opinion.
We planted our potatoes this week and will be watching them grow and adding more compost as soon as we see the green leaves appear. We are hoping to grow lots.

P6 took part in the Inveralmond cluster cross country and one of our girls won 1st place.  We are so proud of her.  Our girls team also came top in the competition, They will go on to represent us in the next stage of the competition in September. Fantastic!

Competitive Celebrations

Some of our Primary 5 pupils took part in a Multisport Festival at Craigswood Sports Centre, as part of Livingston’s 60th Birthday Celebrations.

We tried out some new sports and some that we already love – Football, Badminton and Judo. Our competitive side came out during badminton and we had lots of fun with the Judo and Football coaches. We can’t wait to try out some of these clubs in the community.

Go Go Go P6/7

P6/7 have been working hard to learn our songs, actions and positions for our Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat show.  We have been busy creating props, organising costumes and filming.  It is a lot of work!
We have tidied the front garden and have been chitting potatoes which are now ready to plant.
Some of our P7 class members were at a sports festival which was excellent, and they had great fun.

Green Fingers in P1A

Everyone in P1A has made a super start to our final term in Primary 1!

We have been outside quite a bit this week, making the most of this lovely weather. We have been getting to grips with some new gardening tools which will be very handy when we start planting in our allotment.

P5 Visit Sky Academy

Primary 5 took an exciting trip to The Sky Academy Studios.

Each of us were given an important role (Director, Producer, Scriptwriter, Reporter, Eyewitness, Camera Operator, Editor) within our studio groups. We all worked very hard as a team, to create a fantastic news report about Fake News and how to prevent it.

It was a great opportunity to work with experts and high-tech equipment. What great fun we had!

Safer Internet Week

Safer Internet Day was officially on Tuesday 8th February this week, however we wanted to celebrate this for the whole week.

Across our classes this week pupils were learning more about staying safe online, particularly around this year’s theme, ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’. The Digital Leaders set assignments on TEAMS and SEESAW for everyone to complete.
