Pancake Day in P4

P4 have been celebrating some different events over the last month.

One favourite in particular was Shrove Tuesday. As well as learning about Shrove Tuesday through RME, we were also able to incorporate Pancake Day into our Health, Maths and Literacy activities. We enjoyed investigating our favourite toppings for our pancakes, our favourites being syrup and strawberries. We collected information on favourite toppings, displayed this information in a graph and used the graph to identify most/least popular toppings. We included Pancake day in our Literacy activities through writing shopping lists for making pancakes with our favourite toppings and instructions on how to make pancakes.

P4 Loves Languages

P4 have been celebrating the diverse collection of languages spoken in our school community, as part of Scotland Loves Languages week.

We researched how to say “Hello”, “Welcome” and “How are you?” in a variety of different languages and wrote these in our playgrounds to make our families feel welcome to our school as they pick us up and drop us off.

We have been developing our knowledge of the weather and colours in French through lots of games and fun activities. We have also been working on some Spanish with Mrs Boadley.

P4 Home Learning

Primary 4 have been enjoying working on our homework grids over the last few months. Some children have been creative and made models, others have photographed the changing moon and others have been spreading kindness and Christmas cheer. Many of us have confidently shared our activities and are very proud of our learning.

Here are some examples of what we have done.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Some children from P1 and P2 worked with Mrs Black on one of their favourite stories – We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

After enjoying reading the story , the boys successfully ordered the pictures to retell the story.  They then drew, coloured and annotated their own pictures to create a collaborative book of the story and used playdough to recreate scenes from the story. All before watching the animated version of the story on the smartboard. What hardworking boys!

Sharing Learning in Primary 5/6

Primary 5/6 have been working hard over the last couple of weeks and have been sharing their learning in a variety of ways.

More pupils this week shared their homework on Scotland. Their task was to bring something Scottish to share and talk about with the class. The children have enjoyed the opportunity to be creative with this homework task and have shared lots of new things. This week we had some facts about a Scottish artist, a tartan hat (Stewart Tartan), Scottish music and gigs, a Saltire flag and even some tablet to try!

During our Literacy sessions, Primary 5/6 have been making the most of the little bit of good weather we have had and taken their Spelling tasks outdoors. The pupils used chalk to practice their spelling words in the playground. This is a definite new favourite activity!

New Years Resolutions

Our first week back after the Christmas holidays was a busy one! What better activity to begin the new year than to reflect on the last year and make plans and goals for the year to come. We remembered all the activities we have enjoyed during 2018, when we were still young P4’s and P5’s! We thought about the things that are still to come for us this year- Lowport, trips, responsible roles, and decided to set ourselves some targets for 2019.

We created this display to share our thoughts and ideas, and help keep us on track.

Brilliant Books

Last term we held a Book Fair, where many children from across the school purchased some fantastic books. Due to the number of books purchased during the time the Book Fair was in school, we managed to raise some money to spend on books for our school. Children from the Pupil Leadership Team and pupils from P5/6 were responsible for choosing and ordering some new books to update our school library. There were so many good books to choose from, prices to consider, budgets to adhere to, it really was a tough job!

Just before Christmas our first box of books was delivered and our second box was delivered this week. The Helping Hands team have been busy organising the books this week and putting them out into the library for all to read.

We can’t wait to settle down with a good book!

Merry Christmas from P5/6

Primary 5/6 have been working hard as a team over the last few weeks to put together their own Christmas music video. All pupils have played important roles in the making of this video, either as actors, camera operators or directors. We have learned some new skills and had lots of fun along the way.

We hope everyone has a lovely Christmas!
