Make It Happen
You may remember a few months ago that we launched an app design competition for our P1-7 children through the Make It Happen Club, a charity whose aim is to inspire children’s digital learning!
This week Frances from Make It Happen returned to Toronto for a special Assembly to announce the winning design.
Frances and the engineers had such a difficult time choosing a winner as all the entries were of such a high standard.
Some children were awarded certificates for inspiring ideas for their apps. Frances then announced our two runners up and our overall winner, who were all absolutely delighted with their prizes.
The Make it Happen engineers built a first version of the winning app before the assembly so that we could all see and download it straight away. After the assembly our winner worked with Frances to refine their app.
Well done to all our children who entered and those who received an award for their efforts.
A huge thank you to Frances and the Make It Happen Club for allowing us to be part of this fantastic opportunity!

P7 Visit to Heriot Watt
Primary 7 enjoyed a visit to Heriot Watt University where they had fun designing and testing their own parachutes, took part in fun activities to programme the Sphero bots and also learned more about life at University.
In January Primary 7 pupils took part in the Watt Box challenge, set by Heriot Watt University. The University staff challenged our P7’s to design a chariot which could travel 2 metres and be pushed or pulled by a Sphero Bot. The staff from Heriot Watt were so impressed with the enthusiasm and skills shown by the children, including their preparation and design process, and as a result Toronto Primary were chosen as the Inveralmond Cluster winners. For being the winning ICHS cluster school Heriot Watt invited our P7 children to visit the university to take part in a variety of STEM based activities.
Victorian Inventions in P5/6
P5/6 have been learning about Victorian inventions this week and had a go at being Victorian detectives. We had a look at some objects from Victorian times and tried to guess what they might be used for. We then looked online at photos from a Victorian museum to find out if we were correct.
Digital Victorian Rugs
This week Primary 6 were learning about the importance of rugs in the Victorian Era.
We learned that the more detailed rug you had, then the more stylish your home was!
We planned our rugs first using a grid, trying to include as much detail as possible.
After that, we recreated our rugs digitally using a mosaic app!
Targets Achieved in P1/2
Primary 1/2 have been learning the ‘ph’ sound. As part of our learning we used the i-pad to take a photograph of something around the area. We printed the photos off and wrote a sentence starting ‘my photo is of….’

Safer Internet Day 2024
As part of Safer Internet Day our Digital Leaders delivered presentations to all our children at Toronto, from Nursery right through to P7.
They shared information and knowledge around the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people, with the the theme for this year of ‘Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online’. The team enjoyed delivering these presentations to the classes and also hosted quizzes for our older classes and read stories relating to this theme to our younger children.
Coding Club
At Coding club over the last two weeks we have been developing our knowledge and skills through the use of code.org and Scratch. We have coded our own game of Flappy Bird, achieved certificates for our hours of code and animated our names using code.
Coding Club
This afternoon was our very first coding club.
We started our introduction to coding by learning how to code our beebots. We then used the kapla blocks to build a track/maze and coded our beebots to travel through it.
National Numeracy Day
As part of National Numeracy Day on 18th May children from P2/3, P3, P4/5, P6, P7/6 and P7 took part in an Official World Record Attempt for the most participation and views of Rolling Numbers Livestream. We managed to break the record and 5, 362 schools took part. Well done!
We also took part in Numbers and dancing with Katya Jones, where we learned dynamite dance moves. We had to keep count of the steps . It was great fun. We thought about what we would like to be when we grow up and how we would use numbers in that job. We created pictures of us doing our dream job or hobby and how it uses numbers.
We had a great day.
