P4 Friday Fun

Good morning P4 – another day of snowy fun!

Miss Munro’s quote of the day 🙂

If we were all in class just now, we would be getting ready for our SPELLING TEST. Why not test yourself at home? Get somebody to read your words to you. You could even write your words into the snow. Will you get 7/7 today?

Continue practicing your times tables using our MULTIPLICATION MASH UP (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgjCLhoI9Mk) I will be testing you all when we return to school!

The staff at Toronto met over a Skype call yesterday and we were all wondering what this “Beast from the East” looks like… Put your imagination and creativity skills to the test and draw a picture of the beast to share when we return to school.

If you are out in the snow today, challenge yourself to make a sculpture from the snow – Try something other than a snowman. Make sure you take photographs of all your amazing creations!

Above all, keep extra warm, stay safe and have the best time EVER. Have a fun filled weekend and thank you for sending me all of your amazing photos and videos so far – I am loving them!

P4 using Comic Life to make World Book Day posters

What a terrific Tuesday I had with Primary 4 yesterday when they accepted a big challenge of running this year’s Book Swap (next Thursday). They were challenged to create posters using a digital app called Comic Life. Some children chose to work independently, whilst others were in a pair and they worked so hard that they even set their own success criteria based on their individual confidence levels. The buzz in the classroom was exciting and engaging and the results were fabulous!! Next week we will be learning how to log into our Glowmail and will answer a big question set on our new Yammer group! Watch this space…thanks so much P4, Mrs Simpson.

Positive Vibes

This week we came together as a whole school community for our weekly assembly to discuss the importance of spreading positive vibes through the medium of cheery bananas!  Each class received a special positive message written on a banana and their challenge this week is to fulfill some of these positivity challenges, for example, brighten someone’s day with a smile, believe in yourself and you’re halfway there and ofcourse the favourite – put on your positive pants! 😂

Nursery Loose Parts

As some of you may know from following us on Twitter, on Friday we were lucky enough to have been awarded ‘Very Goods’ by the Care Inspectorate who dropped in on us last week for a formal visit.  The role play in our brick area has substantially evolved and after the introduction of reels, bamboo, tyres and material the results were golden! We stood beside the inspector in awe of our talented children and she was blown away. We knew as practitioners to stand back, observe and allow our amazingly creative children to do what they do best…play! Here’s a teeny snippet of a very real day at Toronto! Enjoy 😊

P4 and P4/3 Scottish Art Gallery

Over the past few weeks Primary 4 and 4/3 have been learning about famous Scottish artists Charles Rennie MacKintosh who was famous for his beautiful rose stained glass window designs, Steven Brown who coined the McCoo Highland Cow art and Andy Scott who designed The Kelpies. They have thoroughly enjoyed this topic and showcases their outstanding artwork in a gallery which they took great delight in showcasing to our whole school and nursery! Well done P4 and P4/3 you blew us away with your knowledge and we loved visiting your gallery! 🎨

Toronto Burns Assembly 2018

At Toronto PS our children always impress us and make us proud…today was a goosebump kind of day, as together, we celebrated the life and times of the great Robert Burns.

Liam from P5 kicked the whole thing off by piping each class into Assembly where our House and Vice Captains presented poetry winners from across the school with wonderful certificates.

We managed to catch a few on video…we hope you enjoy listening as much as we did!  Follow the next few posts for all of the fun!

Scottie Dugs Sewing

Primary 6 continued the celebration of all things Scots in Art and Design with Mrs Fox this week by creating some wonderful and wacky Scottie dugs.

The children chose their favourite patterned fabric with a plain coordinating colour.  Then using a template, they pinned and cut the material.  Finally they used an over-stitch to attach both pieces together.

Next steps will be:

  • To stuff the dugs and add a ribbon so they can be displayed.
  • Personalise the design by adding our own choice of embellishments.

So many skills squeezed into one learning opportunity!

STEM Construction Challenge

Children in our P1-3 department have been thoroughly enjoying taking part in a range of construction based challenges this week! These challenges have been collaborative, motivating and above all FUN! We have had to learn how to co-operate in mini teams, problem solve, persevere and express our own ideas using a wide range of practical materials! Here are a few snapshots of Primary 3/2 in action…with a couple of sneaky P7s who wanted in on the building site action!  Oh and Ms Elder who was instructed by the Site Manager to wear her hard hat and high viz waistcoat before she could pass through 🙂
