P4 Winter Weather Activities!

Good morning P4! The school is closed today due to severe weather conditions so we will keep in touch with you through the blog… Since you can’t read our quote of the day on the whiteboard here is one for you 🙂

Below you will find a variety of learning activities that will keep you busy today. You can reply to the blog post to share your learning!

1) Make sure you have lots of FUN. Get out in the snow and have fun – I want to know who can build the biggest snowman. Take lots of photos and share them on here. If you are going out, please remember to wrap up warm – it is very cold outside!

2) We like to warm up our brains in class with our MULTIPLICATION MASH UP… Why don’t you do this at home? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgjCLhoI9Mk) Let’s see who can remember all of their times tables without looking on the screen #challenge

3) It is WORLD BOOK DAY tomorrow… Why don’t you keep your pj’s on, find a cosy corner to sit and get lost in your favourite book?

4) Now that we have Mrs Gingell on side for our Terrific Tuck Shop, our next mission is to get the rest of the school on side. We will do this by creating a video advertisement to show everyone at assembly. If you are watching the TV today, look out for the different adverts that are on, grab a pad and pencil (most of you will have your homework jotters – you can use this!) and write down all of the GOOD things about the advert, and if they used any PERSUASIVE TECHNIQUES to convince you. We will now be one step ahead for our writing lesson next week!

5) Why don’t you practice being part of a video advertisement? You could create a weather report on today’s weather or find a toy that you really LOVE and persuade everyone else that they should buy it too. Think about the adverts that you have been watching, particularly how long they are, the tone of voice, and the persuasive techniques used!

6) Since we have planning permission now for our tuck shop, we really need to start thinking about how it will look. Can you design the outside of the tuck-shop (this can be completed in your homework jotter) and a logo for the tuck-shop. We may have a competition to see who has the most EYE-CATCHING, COLOURFUL and SIMPLISTIC logo, which will be used for our Terrific Tuck Shop. Here is an example of logo’s below – remember they are not big detailed drawings!

7) You could help out around the house today since we are all sprinkling our kindness around like glitter. You could do this by helping to make lunch or dinner, tidying away toys you have been playing with, hanging up your wet clothes to dry, shovelling the paths outside with an adult, helping with a sibling…

8) If you have access to a computer or tablet, there are lots of fun and interactive websites that you can go on. I have added a list of links below with different maths and spelling games:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Search.aspx?Subject=16 (hit the button or sharing equally)

https://www.sumdog.com/ (sumdog logins should be in homework jotters)

https://kidsspell.com/

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=just+dance (we all LOVE just dance – If you can’t get outside today, stay active in the house with a little SWISH SWISH)

MOST IMPORTANTLY… Have lots of fun and stay safe. I cannot wait to hear all of your amazing stories about your day in the snow. Miss Munro 🙂

P3/2 Happy snow day!

Good morning Primary 3/2!

Just in case you need some activities to keep you busy today, here are some ideas!

  1. Play ‘Hit the button’ to test your number bonds. Write down your scores to share with us back in class.

  2. It’s World Book Day tomorrow so find your favourite book & a comfy spot to sit back & enjoy it! Think about the characters in the story, why do you like them? Where is the story set? Find 5 adjectives to describe the characters and the setting.

  3. If you can, log into Sumdog.

  4. Practice your spelling words. You could do pyramid writing or maybe even make a word search to share with the class when we get back to school.

  5. Read your school reading book. Could you write a book review? Tell us the name of the author & illustrator. What the book is about, what your favourite part of the story is then draw a picture. Also give the book a star rating out of 5.

  6. Think this may be my favourite activity and what I’m doing with my girls! Wrap up nice and warm and get out in the snow! Could you make a snowman? If you can then take a photo or draw a picture of it.  If a snowman is too tricky then how many snowballs can you make & throw!

Have a fun day whatever you do, I’m looking forward to hearing all about it tomorrow!

Getting Ready for World Book Day!

We had a great time looking at the books that are available to buy with World Day Vouchers. All pupils at Toronto PS will be receiving a voucher on Thursday 1st March, World Book Day. We are looking forward to swapping books and having a good day highlighting the importance of books and reading.

All these books are available from all good shops to buy with your World Book Day Voucher that all children at Toronto will receive by Friday 2nd March.  Have a great World Book Day when it comes!

Toronto Builders!

Primary 4 have started their BIG plans for their new healthy tuck shop (opening for business soon!) They realised that they could not start building in the school without planning permission from Mrs Gingell. Luckily we have been working SUPER hard on our persuasive writing that we were able to write fantastic persuasive letters to her. The builders paid Mrs Gingell a visit today – let’s hope we get the planning permission that we need!

UPDATE!! PLANNING PERMISSION GRANTED!
You made it impossible for me to refuse permission for Toronto’s Terrific Tuck Shop. You gave many excellent reasons for why we should open a healthy tuck shop.  In your letters you listed
lots of important skills you will develop through this process.
And most importantly, you have done some excellent research and you will be selling grapes, which you know are my favourite fruit – very persuasive P4 🙂

I look forward to the grand opening!
Mrs G

Book Swap

To celebrate World Book Day in Thursday, we would like to ask everyone to bring in a book from home that they are finished reading and wouldn’t mind swapping with someone else in school. Books should be in very good condition. Children can send in more than one book and our aim is that all children in our school get to swap a book and leave with another. This was hugely successful 2 years ago and we are really hoping for the same thing again this year. Please send books in tomorrow or Wednesday in preparation for World Book Day on Thursday.  Please note: there is no need to dress up this year. Our goal is not to spend money on costumes but to promote a love for reading. This doesn’t mmmm not apply to nursery children as they are launching Big Bedtime Read on Thursday instead. Thank you in advance.

Today’s Achievements Assembly

Today at our whole school assembly we enjoyed celebrating the achievements of many of our children from across our school when they were recognised for effort, manners and for helping others.

We were treated to a glimpse of our Glee Club performance which was outstanding! Thank you to Mrs Steel, Ms Muir, Mr Platt and Noriko our dance teacher, for helping us get ready for next week’s big performance! Make sure you remember your props for rehearsals this week everyone.

Mr Graham reminded us all of the basics of Building Learning Power with a little help from some volunteers who showed perseverance, collaboration and lots of effort! We’re looking forward to working more on mini BLP sessions over the next few weeks.

Primary 4 children shared their World Book Day challenge with everyone. They have been busy creating posters asking if everyone could bring a book in to swap and keep on Thursday. Please note, there is not a necessity for children to dress up on Thursday for World Book Day – we’d just love you to bring in a preloved book for swapping 📚📙📘📚

ICT in Primary 5

Primary 5 have been learning to use SWAY and YAMMER. These are both available for the children to use from home. All they have to do is enter their glow email and password to a phone or tablet if one is available.

SWAY can be used as an alternative to POWERPOINT and is an easy way to make presentations. The children have already made one in class and can add to their SWAY library at home if they wish.

YAMMER means to whine, complain and to talk loudly!! YAMMER is a tool which connects the class as an online discussion group. The children can share knowledge, opinions and build a learning community with it.

This week we are discussing the pros and cons to : Should Kids be Allowed to Bring Phones to School? The children are welcome to add comments at home, again through GLOW.

WELL DONE P5 for all, your GLOWING hard work.

P4 Badminton Festival Fun

Today our wonderful primary 4 children, along with Miss Munro, Mrs Hardie and our lovely parent helpers Vivienne and Fiona headed down to Craigswood Sports Centre to participate in a badminton festival.  They were super excited and absolutely did our school proud whilst participating alongside children across our cluster. Well done boys and girls, we’re so proud of you and the infectious giggles as you bounced back into school proved that you had fun! Don’t believe us? Check out Miss Munro’s video 👌🏼
