Snowy Day Fun in P5

Thanks for your fabby photos guys!!
Primary 6/7 Thursday Activities
Good morning primary 6/7 and HAPPY WORLD BOOK DAY! I have really enjoyed seeing pictures of you having lots of fun in the snow. I will try to capture some photos of my own and post them later today 🙂 If you are looking for some more activities, here are some suggestions you could try.
1. Since it is World Book Day, you could cosy up and read your favourite book. Me and Cinco (my dog) are going to be snuggled in reading “Brain Freeze” by Tom Fletcher.
2. You could create a poster to advertise your book and persuade someone else to read it. Think about the persuasive openers you completed for your Read, Write, Swap books!
3. We have been working hard in class to create interesting newspaper reports which include the 5ws – what, why, where, when, who? You could write your own newspaper report on the weather across Scotland. Remember you need a catchy headline!
4. Continue to play games on Sumdog and compete with your classmates. You are really challenging yourselves and doing a fantastic job. Have you shown someone how to use the grid method for multiplication?
5. Practise your times tables! There are plenty of songs on Youtube that you could learn to help you. These ones are particularly fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XzfQUXqiYY
6. Are you feeling inspired by the snow? Get creative and make some artwork. You could draw or paint a snowy landscape. I know you love the “How to Draw” videos so why not show someone at home?
- I know you will have been having lots of fun. Why not write me a letter to let me know what you have been up to? I can’t wait to hear all of your stories!
- There are lots of unusual birds in my garden at the moment. Why not spread some kindness and feed some birds. They will be finding it hard to find food in all of this snow.
Please continue to wrap up warm and keep yourselves safe! Keep sending me your pictures 🙂 lauren.walker1@westlothian.org.uk
P1 Thursday snow day
Good morning P1!
What a fantastic snowman and snow angel! Can’t wait to see what you and everyone else is planning to do today.

Here are some more activities to keep everyone busy today.
Literacy
World Book Day
To celebrate world book day, you could dress up as your favourite character from a book and send me a photo. You could also design an outfit for your favourite character to wear. Keep on reading too!
We need to catch up
We are going to have a lot to catch up on, so why not write me a letter to tell me what you have been doing during the snow days and what I have been missing out on. Remember to draw me a picture of your favourite part!
Maths
Bulls eye
Snowballs do not have to be thrown at people. Flatten an area of snow by stomping on it and ask an adult to help you draw a target in the flattened snow. When you have drawn your target number the rings with sticks, stones or whatever you can find nearby. Now throw your snowballs at the targets and add your points together.
Science
Nature Hunt
Take an adult for a nature walk. Keep your eyes peeled for all the different prints you will see in the snow, you could even take pictures of them to help you remember what they looked like. When you return home use the internet to help you discover what animal the prints belong to.
Bird Watch
Did you see any birds yesterday? I saw 3 bullfinches, 9 robins and 4 wrens. This morning I have already seen 2 bullfinches, a robin and a wren. Keep going with your tally chart today. Why don’t you also research how to make a bird feeder and create your own to help the birds. We will be making our own bird feeder for the school next week!
Balloon experiment
With the help of an adult fill some balloons with water. Add different food colouring to each balloon and place them outside amongst the snow. Check on your experiment over the course of the day and see what happens to the water in your balloons. At the end of the day you can pop the balloon and use the inside to create a picture.
Expressive Arts
Headless Snowman
Make a snowman without a head. When you have completed your snowman stand behind it as if your head belongs to the snowman. Take a picture and send it to me via the Twitter account
Health and Wellbeing
Snowy obstacle course
Design an obstacle course where you have to climb over, go under or/and go round different objects made from snow. When you have completed your course, play follow my leader with a sibling, friend or adult. Snowy hurdles work well!
Brighten up my day
Ask an adult for a water bottle filled with water and a little bit of food colouring. Write your sounds or words in the snow. Remember to take a picture and either send it to me via the school blog or bring it into school when we’re back.
P4 – Thursday Activities!
Good morning Primary
4 and Happy World Book Day!
Miss Munro’s quote of the day 🙂
I really enjoyed receiving all of your photos and videos and hope you have just as much fun in the snow today. If you are looking for more fun activities to do, see below:
- Let’s celebrate World Book Day by reading our favourite books. Miss Munro plans to cosy up in front of the fire with the book “Wonder”. What will you be reading? Draw a picture of your favourite character in your chosen book and explain why they are your favourite. Write a persuasive piece of writing convincing a friend to read the book – Remember to give it a star rating!
- Write an imaginative story about “The Beast from the East”. Catch up on the latest Newsround to find out more information about this wintery weather (http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/38949047) Remember to include all of the amazing work we did last term on characterisation and setting in your writing. Or you could write about everything that you have been getting up to on these wonderful wintery days. CHALLENGE: Include at least five WOW words!
- Practice your skills in division by sharing items out between people in your family. Gather up some pens, sweeties, or even snow balls and share them out between friends or family. What will the division calculation be? You can also access the Multiplication Mash Up to continue practicing those times tables – Practice makes Perfect! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgjCLhoI9Mk)
- Get creative and do some snowy art work – Sit by the window and
draw what you can see outside, grab a piece of paper and scissors and create a snow flake or use your imagination to create your very own Winter Wonderland. - Make the most of the snow and having fun outdoors. Remember to wrap up extra warm and stay safe. If you would rather stay indoors, challenge somebody at home at your favourite game or access the internet to enjoy the different interactive games that we use in class (Top Marks, Sumdog, Just Dance!)
Have a wonderful day in the snow and I cannot wait to hear even more of your stories from the last 2 days. If you have any photos you would like to share, please send them to shannon.munro@westlothian.org.uk – I look forward to seeing all of your snowy adventures.
Miss Munro 🙂
