Glee Club P3 – 7

Hi everyone in Glee CLub.
You can keep yourself warm today by practicing our routine. We are missing a run through today so you need to keep going over our songs and dance moves. You have all been working so hard and we need to keep this up in order to be ready for the competition next Thursday!

Sumdog

Remember Sumdog! https://www.sumdog.com/
You can all have fun and challenge yourself to improve your maths, reading and writing skills using this fun site. You can play against friends from your class or from children around the world!! Can you create a Users Manual? Imagine that an Alien has arrived at Toronto PS and needs to learn how to use Sumdog. Sadly the Alien can only read – they can’t hear you!? Have a go.

P7 Snow Day Learning

Good morning primary 7!

Here are some ways that you can carry on learning at home today. Please save anything you work on and bring it in to show me.

1. Numeracy

Usually at this time we’d probably be finishing CLIC. Since we’re not, why don’t you test a family member.

  • Can they round to the nearest thousand, ten thousand or hundred thousand?
  • Can they round to 1 decimal place or 2  decimal places?
  • Can they complete a multiplication card?
  • Can you teach them the GRID method for multiplying?

2. Balanced Arguments

West Lothian Council made a tough decision in the early hours of this morning. They closed ALL the schools! What arguments would they have considered for and against doing this?

3. World Book Day

It’s World Book Day tomorrow.

  1. Dig out those book swap books and read them for one last time!
  2. Or you could read to a parent or sibling.
  3. Why don’t you use kiddle to research what a Thundersnow is?

4. Weather Watch

Will the weather forecast be accurate? Is it all cold air?

Use this form (p7 weather watch) to compare what the Met Office and BBC Weather have predicted for today. Were they accurate?

5. Other links to learning websites: Winter learning links

See you soon!

Primary 6/7

Morning Primary 6/7 and happy snow day! Below is a list of activities that you could choose to complete throughout the day.

  1. Reading – Make a cosy corner or den and read your favourite book. Remember it is World Book Day tomorrow. You could draw a picture of your favourite character or write a summary/book review of your book.
  2. Maths – Go online and play Sumdog. Remember you can play against your classmates! I will keep an eye on the scores throughout the day – challenge yourself!
  3. Show someone at home how to use the grid method to solve multiplication problems. You can do 2 digit numbers by 1 or challenge yourself further!
  4. Didbook – You could go online and create a Didbook post. Think about everything we have been learning recently and choose your favourites to post about.
  5. Weather Report – Have some fun and film a weather report on today’s weather. Think about your voice and outfit. Are there any safety tips you could share? How could you make it exciting for your audience? Get creative! Remember to share your videos.
  6. Get outside and enjoy the snow! You could create a giant snowman, snowdog or how about an igloo? You could measure your snowman’s height and we can see who built the tallest snowman.

Above all, have fun and enjoy the snow! Please keep in touch and share all your fun activities and videos!

P2 Snow Day!!

Good Morning P2! Happy Snow day!

As well as keeping safe in this weather here is a list of a few fun activities you can complete today, I know how much you will be missing school.

literacy – after all your fun snow  activities,  write about something you have really enjoyed doing today? Perhaps it was spending the day in your pjs. What was your best bits? Remember those amazing wow words to help describe your day.
Get cosy and read a book, perhaps you might want to design a new front cover for this?

Maths – log onto sumdog and play some games, remember you can challenge your friends to a competition.

P.E – go outside and have fun, can you make a massive snowman? Perhaps go sledging? What about helping parents and carers to clear the snow?

Topic – we are carrying on our learning about the winter Olympics, if you are able ask a parent to help you find out 2 facts about a winter Olympic sport of your choice. Can you design a new piece of  equipment for this sport (i.e what design would you have on your bob-sleigh, skies or snowboard?)

Most  of all  have fun and stay safe! Please send in any pictures of your snow day so we can share our adventures when back in school. I can’t wait to hear all your stories!!

P4 Winter Weather Activities!

Good morning P4! The school is closed today due to severe weather conditions so we will keep in touch with you through the blog… Since you can’t read our quote of the day on the whiteboard here is one for you 🙂

Below you will find a variety of learning activities that will keep you busy today. You can reply to the blog post to share your learning!

1) Make sure you have lots of FUN. Get out in the snow and have fun – I want to know who can build the biggest snowman. Take lots of photos and share them on here. If you are going out, please remember to wrap up warm – it is very cold outside!

2) We like to warm up our brains in class with our MULTIPLICATION MASH UP… Why don’t you do this at home? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgjCLhoI9Mk) Let’s see who can remember all of their times tables without looking on the screen #challenge

3) It is WORLD BOOK DAY tomorrow… Why don’t you keep your pj’s on, find a cosy corner to sit and get lost in your favourite book?

4) Now that we have Mrs Gingell on side for our Terrific Tuck Shop, our next mission is to get the rest of the school on side. We will do this by creating a video advertisement to show everyone at assembly. If you are watching the TV today, look out for the different adverts that are on, grab a pad and pencil (most of you will have your homework jotters – you can use this!) and write down all of the GOOD things about the advert, and if they used any PERSUASIVE TECHNIQUES to convince you. We will now be one step ahead for our writing lesson next week!

5) Why don’t you practice being part of a video advertisement? You could create a weather report on today’s weather or find a toy that you really LOVE and persuade everyone else that they should buy it too. Think about the adverts that you have been watching, particularly how long they are, the tone of voice, and the persuasive techniques used!

6) Since we have planning permission now for our tuck shop, we really need to start thinking about how it will look. Can you design the outside of the tuck-shop (this can be completed in your homework jotter) and a logo for the tuck-shop. We may have a competition to see who has the most EYE-CATCHING, COLOURFUL and SIMPLISTIC logo, which will be used for our Terrific Tuck Shop. Here is an example of logo’s below – remember they are not big detailed drawings!

7) You could help out around the house today since we are all sprinkling our kindness around like glitter. You could do this by helping to make lunch or dinner, tidying away toys you have been playing with, hanging up your wet clothes to dry, shovelling the paths outside with an adult, helping with a sibling…

8) If you have access to a computer or tablet, there are lots of fun and interactive websites that you can go on. I have added a list of links below with different maths and spelling games:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Search.aspx?Subject=16 (hit the button or sharing equally)

https://www.sumdog.com/ (sumdog logins should be in homework jotters)

https://kidsspell.com/

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=just+dance (we all LOVE just dance – If you can’t get outside today, stay active in the house with a little SWISH SWISH)

MOST IMPORTANTLY… Have lots of fun and stay safe. I cannot wait to hear all of your amazing stories about your day in the snow. Miss Munro 🙂

P3/2 Happy snow day!

Good morning Primary 3/2!

Just in case you need some activities to keep you busy today, here are some ideas!

  1. Play ‘Hit the button’ to test your number bonds. Write down your scores to share with us back in class.

  2. It’s World Book Day tomorrow so find your favourite book & a comfy spot to sit back & enjoy it! Think about the characters in the story, why do you like them? Where is the story set? Find 5 adjectives to describe the characters and the setting.

  3. If you can, log into Sumdog.

  4. Practice your spelling words. You could do pyramid writing or maybe even make a word search to share with the class when we get back to school.

  5. Read your school reading book. Could you write a book review? Tell us the name of the author & illustrator. What the book is about, what your favourite part of the story is then draw a picture. Also give the book a star rating out of 5.

  6. Think this may be my favourite activity and what I’m doing with my girls! Wrap up nice and warm and get out in the snow! Could you make a snowman? If you can then take a photo or draw a picture of it.  If a snowman is too tricky then how many snowballs can you make & throw!

Have a fun day whatever you do, I’m looking forward to hearing all about it tomorrow!

Mrs Richmond
