A Busy Week in P7A

This week we worked with our P1 buddies, we had great fun playing in the field.  We had pots and pans and water and we made potions and grass soup.  We played Duck, duck, goose, played with bubbles and had a blether.

In rugby we were learning how to pass the and how to score a try, we had to race against each other.

In Bikeability some of us were learning how to cross the road, do a U-turn and safe start and stop.

When the Bikeability groups were out the rest of P7A learned about the artist Piet Mondrian and we created our own compositions.  Piet Mondrian was a famous artist who developed a style of his own, called neoplasticism. His work became minimalistic. He painted using simple lines, right angles and blocks of primary colours. Mondrian wanted to express a harmony and purity in his work.

Santa’s Den

P6/7 and P7 had a visit from Santa this week. Pupils worked together in groups to design and create a new mode of transport for Santa. Each group then had to pitch their design to Santa, explaining how their mode of transport was environmentally friendly , cost effective, how it moved, etc.

Santa was very impressed with our designs! Well done to Santa’s winning team!

Busy, Busy, Busy in P6/7!

P6/7 have been busy!
We have been rehearsing for our performance of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
In maths, we have been interpreting data from bar, line and pie charts.
We have been focussing on discussion writing and thinking of arguments for and against as well as our own opinion.
We planted our potatoes this week and will be watching them grow and adding more compost as soon as we see the green leaves appear. We are hoping to grow lots.

P6 took part in the Inveralmond cluster cross country and one of our girls won 1st place.  We are so proud of her.  Our girls team also came top in the competition, They will go on to represent us in the next stage of the competition in September. Fantastic!

Go Go Go P6/7

P6/7 have been working hard to learn our songs, actions and positions for our Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat show.  We have been busy creating props, organising costumes and filming.  It is a lot of work!
We have tidied the front garden and have been chitting potatoes which are now ready to plant.
Some of our P7 class members were at a sports festival which was excellent, and they had great fun.

Excellent Experiments in P6/7

P6/7 have been carrying out science experiments this week, looking at changing state of materials.
We did some dissolving experiments and had to predict which materials would dissolve and which wouldn’t.
We learned that some substances dissolve when you mix them with water. When a substance dissolves, it looks like it disappears, but in fact, it has just mixed with the water to make a transparent (see-through) liquid called a solution.
When you mix sugar with water, the sugar dissolves to make a transparent solution. Salt dissolves in water too. We learned that sand doesn’t dissolve.
We also discussed how ice can change to water and steam and how some materials can change back to their original state.

We also looked at the structure of the Earth.  We made models to show the crust, the mantle, outer core and the inner core.  We also learned that we can use an apple or a boiled egg to represent these.

We love PE and really enjoy when we have coaches in to take lessons, so much so we decided to take on the role of the coach ourselves for our PE session on Wednesday.

We worked our classmates hard!
