P1 and Scripture Union

Last week Scripture Union came into school to work with classes. P1a and P1b had a great time watching and taking part in the story of “God’s Great Idea!”. Children learned about God’s plan, designed their very own inventions and created a head band with a light bulb showing themselves……God’s Great Idea!

Sports Committee Assembly

This morning we had an assembly to celebrate all of the great sporting achievements of  2018/19. This year we have had lots of different clubs such as football, futsal, rugby, dancing cycling and invasion games. This year we have had a lot of different clubs but next year we want more. We would to thank all of our partners who have played a big part in helping us achieve our sporting excellence this year.

A Fun Filled Day at Low Port

Today we have been very busy outdoors!

Once kitted out in our waterproofs and wellies we all took part in canoeing and a forest adventure. We loved crawling through tunnels, walking up the stream and keeping our canoe afloat!

After dinner we got glammed up for our disco and were cutting some shapes on the dance floor.

We are all really tired today after lots of activities and looking forward to bed!

An early morning visit to Linlithgow Palace is planned for tomorrow, before heading home after lunch.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

P5 are at Low Port!

We arrived early this morning and were out and about straight away. We went for a looong walk round the Loch – the park at the end and roly polys down the huge hill was worth the walk! After lunch at the centre it was time to walk to Linlithgow Canal Centre, we loved our trip on the boat, and were very impressed with the boat’s 3 point turns!

We went back to the centre and were very excited to get to our rooms!, then we remembered we had to make our beds!! That was tough!

After a yummy dinner we went down to the peel for a game of rounders.  Once back we got snuggled into our jammies, put a film on and had some supper before bed.

We have been so busy today and there are lots of tired P5’s tonight. We have another busy day tomorrow!

Sports Day 2019

On Friday 31st May, we held our annual Sports Day. Even though the weather wasn’t too kind, we still had lots of fun, laughs, teamwork and competition, as we held our sports day indoors.

In our big hall we took part in some potted sports, where we were shooting the football into the goal, testing out our aim on the target throw, completing the obstacle course and running the hurdles, to name a few. In the lunch hall we took part in some traditional sports day races – flat race, bean bag race, egg and spoon race. We had lots of proud winners showing off their certificates and stickers for placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in our races.

Along with our water to keep us hydrated during all this physical activity, we enjoyed some tasty fruit during our morning, which was very kindly donated by Aldi and Lidl, and then a tasty ice lolly treat afterwards.

Today our Pupil Leadership Team shared the total scores from the day for each House team. Our winning house was Mohawk, who enjoyed an extra break together this afternoon as their reward. Well done Team Mohawk!

Here are some photos and videos from the day taken by our photographer Peyton.

DYW Skills Fair

Some of our P7’s had an amazing time at the Almondvale Stadium this week investigating careers at West Lothian’s DYW Skills Fair. All pupil enjoyed lots of interactive activities – making bath bombs, slime, ice cream and lemonade, working on their coding skills using the Scratch website, finding out about items of medical equipment, trying out VR headsets, creating and designing our own sweets and sweet shops, as well as many other interesting skills and careers.

What a fab morning!

Terrific Toronto Teachers

Our Toronto staff have been taking part in a variety of sessions, including online learning, to develop their knowledge and skills in using some of our digital resources.

In our latest session they have been refreshing their knowledge of Education City. This website is an active and engaging resource we use in class to support our pupils’ learning.

Toronto’s Digital Leaders also attended this learning session and are confident in supporting our pupils, and our staff, in the use of this fab resource. What super team work at Toronto!

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Some children from P1 and P2 worked with Mrs Black on one of their favourite stories – We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

After enjoying reading the story , the boys successfully ordered the pictures to retell the story.  They then drew, coloured and annotated their own pictures to create a collaborative book of the story and used playdough to recreate scenes from the story. All before watching the animated version of the story on the smartboard. What hardworking boys!

Productive afternoons in Primary 3/4

Primary 3/4 have been working hard over the past week on their Interdisciplinary topic “The Titanic”. The pupils were set a challenge to “raise the Titanic from her watery grave” by reproducing the unsinkable ship in their classroom.  The children worked well together to decide upon how they would like to display the ship in their room. They then split into teams and took a part of the display each to work on. The finished product was completely the work of the children. They worked together to establish their ideas, list the resources they required, shared out the jobs and the work and then put all the elements together. Their Titanic display is quite impressive and definitely meets the criteria set in the challenge, by demonstrating their skills, teamwork and creativity.

After all that hard work, it was time to enjoy the sunshine! We took our PE outdoors and practiced some of our races and skills we will need for taking part in our Sports Day that is coming soon. We loved racing each other and had lots of laughs when balancing the bean bags on our heads!
