Welcome to P2B!

Welcome to P2B’s first blog post!

We have had a busy first few days in P2B. This week we have been exploring our school values and putting them into action! Miss Harrison has been giving us lots of dojo’s when we have been kind to others and when we have been respecting our new resources and classroom. She has been so impressed at how quickly we have settled into P2 and we are already confident with our new routines.

On Thursday, we learned about children’s rights. We looked at some of the rights and discussed how we could make sure that we had each of these rights in school. For example, we learned that we have the right to be healthy so we are going to make sure that we take part in lots of PE, drink water and milk and eat healthy food. We created a class charter in our classroom so that we (and Miss Harrison) remember these rights throughout P2. We made ourselves as Lego people to display on our class charter.

On Thursday afternoon our P6 pals came to visit. We enjoyed playing with our P6 pals and catching up with them after the summer.

In Literacy this week we started our first class novel, ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’. Miss Harrison read us the first couple of chapters and then we talked about the main characters and what happened in the story. On Friday we became illustrators and drew a picture of what happened in the story, using describing words from the text to help us.

This week we also had Mrs Begarnie on Wednesday afternoon. We will have Mrs Begarnie for Science each Wednesday afternoon as well as Mrs Reid for PE. On Thursday morning we also had Mrs Bain for music. We will continue to have music each Thursday morning with Mrs Bain.

Thank you for reading our first blog post. We hope that you have a lovely weekend.

P5 Weekly Blog

This Week…

Well, we’re already nearing the end of the first week of the 2019/2020 session! It’s been a pleasure getting to know our shiny, new P5s. They’ve been full of bubble and enthusiasm, and shown a willingness to learn which bodes well for the coming months. Mr Logan is looking forward to what is sure to be an exciting year.

This week, we’ve been getting to know each other, settling into new routines and beginning to setup the classroom together. We’ve been participating in lots of paired tasks and group work to show Mr Logan how effectively we can communicate and work as a team. On Thursday we enjoyed attempting a ‘Tower Challenge’ with marshmallows and spaghetti to see who could build the highest, freestanding structure. We could only used the 9 marshmallows (would have been 10 each had Mr Logan not eaten some) and 20 strands of spaghetti provided. Eva, Howie, Sofia and Emily D came out as winners!

Finally, a mention to L and M who brought in their latest gymnastics achievements to share with us today. Both girls attend gymnastics sessions locally and continue add medals of various colours to their collection! Great effort you two, Mr Logan is super proud of you.

L and M sharing their latest gymnastics successes!

Final blog from p2B

We’ve had a busy last week . On Tuesday we had a French cafe serving Breakfasts. We all enjoyed croissants, fruit, jam and juice and had French cafe music to accompany our eating!

We all enjoyed the inflatables on Wednesday and then had fun in the park on Thursday. Other than that we have been revising multiplication and writing about our favourite memories of P2.

Have a wonderful summer everybody and looking forward to seeing you all back as P3’s in August.

Love from P2B and Mrs.Burton

Summer’s Here in P3B!

One of the children asked me why they weren’t doing much work this week and I explained because P3B have worked so hard all year that they deserve to relax and enjoy being with their friends.

We have actually done some work this week! We completed our imaginative stories on Monday when we wrote good endings – we learned about different types of story endings and chose to write either a happy ending, a twist ending or a cliff hanger ending.  We also finished off our maths with some fractions lessons.  We have been practising the days of the week in French too as well as doing some pop art.

The inflatable afternoon was great fun! We all tried a few of the inflatables and some children played the carnival games while others just had enjoyed being together outside, making up their own games with outdoor toys.

As well as all of that we were at a lovely awards assembly on Thursday where L was presented with the ‘Fair Medal’ It was very well deserved and we are all very proud of her 🙂

We had another busy afternoon on Thursday when we had our class party.  The games were good fun and highly competitive!  Well done to all the winners and to those who took part to make it a success.

I can’t believe we are at the end of the year already, it has flown by.  We have had a great year, all of the children have given above and beyond anything I have asked of them.  They are a great bunch and they are really ready to move onto P4 and the new challenges and adventures ahead. You are all welcome to pop in to see me anytime.

Have a wonderful summer.

Primary 5 – w/e 28th June 2019

Our final week in Primary 5 and we are all looking forward to our summer break!!

We have had the opportunity to play with our P2 Pals this week and to share our non-fiction books with them and with others in our class.

We had a great afternoon on the inflatables on Wednesday. Thankyou Mrs Anderson for organising this for us.

In maths we played ‘The Pirate Game’. Ask us how this works!!

On Tuesday Mrs Campbell had arranged a delicious french breakfast for us where we practised ordering in french. Thankyou Mrs Campbell and Ian for helping us with this.

We’ve played rounders with Mrs Reid.

We would like to wish Charlie every success in his new school as he leaves Springfield today.

Have an amazing break.

Kind regards

Primary 5 (soon to be Primary 6!) and Mrs  Kerr

That’s a wrap!

This has been our last week in P6 and it has been very busy!

On Monday we did the Chilli challenge in Maths. This was interesting as it showed us how much we had learned. We read Return To Groosham Grange

( we were trying to read the whole novel in a week).

On Tuesday we had our first buddy tea party in the Nursery, and we took part in a “Would you Rather” discussion.

On Wednesday Kieran came in for our funday. We went to the park, played rounders, sorted out the netbooks for Mr Wells and then had our fun, inflatable afternoon. The sun shone and it was a great relaxing day.

Thursday morning we went to the awards ceremony. This was really nice and a few of us won awards for Maths. We then had our final Science session with Mrs Tulloch for P6. In the afternoon we read some more Groosham Grange and finished moving things around in the classroom, plus our second tea party.

Today has been a day of mixed emotions. We are happy the holidays are almost here, however sad that we are saying goodbye to Miss Baillie, but excited to be moving into P7- phew who knew we could feel so many emotions at the same time!

Have a fantastic summer and we will be back with more updates in August (as P7a 🙂  )

Signing off,

P6a and Mrs Newton 🙂

P.S. We finished Return to Groosham Grange 🙂 🙂

P1B – Week ending 28th June

Wow!  What a busy, fun week we have had in P1B!

In Literacy this week we worked on our diary writing skills and tricky word spelling.  We wrote some super sentences about our weekend.  Most of us had been to the Gala Day and we wrote about the fun we had during the procession and the crowning of the Queen.  We continued to work on our listening and talking skills too, sharing what we had done after the Gala Day procession too.

In Numeracy we completed our topic assessment on our Numbers to 20 and Mrs Reid was very impressed with how well we remembered how to sequence in 1s, 2s and 3s.

We had the chance to spend time with our new P6 pals and had great fun reading, playing and drawing with them.

On Tuesday we had our trip to the Bo’ness Railway Museum.  We enjoyed our bus journey very much and had great fun when we got to the Museum, looking at all of the trains and models. We even managed to find all of the teddies on the Teddy Trail!  When we got back to the station, our steam train was waiting for us.  We had our lunch on the train and saw some of the fast trains passing by on the neighbouring line.  Mrs Reid thought the class behaved beautifully and represented the school perfectly!

On Wednesday we had our Teddy Bears’ Picnic with our P7 buddies and then our fun inflatable afternoon.  We were super excited about it!  We played outside games with our buddies and then sat together to have our picnic.  At our inflatable afternoon, everyone waited patiently for their turn and had a lot of fun bouncing around on the pirate galleon and playing the fun fair games.

On Thursday we went to the P7 Leavers’ Assembly and thanked them for being such good buddies.

We have had a super term in P1B, learning lots whilst having plenty of fun and laughs along with the way!  Mrs Reid has thoroughly enjoyed working with the class and is very sorry to be leaving but will keep in touch to hear how P2B are doing!!  She might even pop in to say hello!

Have a super holiday and a well-earned rest!

Mrs Reid and Primary 1B

Our last two weeks in P3A

We have had a busy last couple of weeks in P3A!

In Numeracy and Mathematics we finished our work on division and we learned to find halves and quarters of shapes and numbers. We also learned how to find three quarters of a set. To help us with finding fractions of numbers, we used our division facts.  For example, if we were finding one quarter of 32, then we divided 32 by 4, using our knowledge of the 4 times-table. Some of us were also learning to find thirds, fifths and tenths of a set and we also learned to find equivalent fractions. We have worked so hard with our Numeracy and Mathematics this year and we have all made good progress.

In Literacy, we looked at writing an ending for our imaginative stories. We watched a video about writing interesting endings and then we looked at using a happy ending, a cliff-hanger ending and a twist ending. On our notes page, we created three different endings for our own stories. On Tuesday this week, we used our notes pages and selected which ending we were going to pick for our stories; a happy ending, a cliff-hanger ending or a twist ending. We had to ensure that our endings made sense and that we brought our events to a conclusion.

In Art and Design, we explored Pop Art. We looked at the use of bright colours and repeated patterns and then we created our own images in a similar style. After discussing our highlights of Primary Three, we used the outline of an image to represent one of our highlights. Then we used bright colours and repeated patterns to add detail and effects to our images.

On Wednesday this week we had an Inflatable Fun Day! We played different fairground games, went on several bouncy castles and inflatables and had snacks and drinks. We really enjoyed our afternoon of fun in the sunshine!

On Thursday morning, we attended the end of term awards assembly. One of the awards presented at the assembly was the Phair Medal. This award is in recognition of our school’s first secretary, Mrs Phair. It is awarded for a hard-working pupil who displays an excellent attitude towards learning and is a positive role model. A huge well done to OH who was awarded the Phair Medal!

On Thursday afternoon this week we had a class party! Miss Harrison wanted to throw us a party to celebrate all of our hard work, learning and achievements this year. We had lots of party food, played party games and enjoyed spending time with our friends.

Thank you for reading all of our blog posts this year. We have loved sharing our learning. We hope that you have a healthy, happy and fun summer!
