Blog week ending 22.6.18

 

In literacy this week we had discussions about the Marches .We were reading non-fiction books and playing reading games.

In numeracy we played a game using problem solving skills to find the long lost trophy.

In health and wellbeing, we played games including duck, duck, goose, tig, man hunt and jungle on fire. We played relay races and hurdles with Mrs Reid.

In learning across the curriculum we got to find out about our new teacher and class for next year. We completed our end of year booklet and made thank you letters to Mrs McAlpine.

P3/4 Blog WE 15.6.18

In literacy this week we learned more interesting words to use than, for example, nice, good and went.

In numeracy we have been learning about probability. We rolled a dice and kept a score of how many times it landed on each number. We worked out what the probability was for different groups in the class, for example, who had dark hair and blue eyes.

In health and wellbeing, we played potted sports including cheer leading, badminton, gymnastics, tennis, space hoppers, rugby, javelin, hurdles, egg and spoon, obstacle course, running, boules, cricket, threw bean bags and had races including the on Sports day. We played handball, golf, football, Gaelic football and had relay races. We had an active start every morning and practised yoga and mindfulness. We also made healthy smoothies.

In learning across the curriculum we learned more about farming from Springtime on the Farm.

P3/4 Blog WE 8.6.18

In literacy this week we learned plurals and words ending in ‘s’ or ‘es’. We played comprehension games after our reading. We learned about contractions which are when two words join together to make one word e.g. ‘he has’ changes to ‘he’s’.

In numeracy we did ‘Big Maths Beat That’ and revised division and times tables with Mrs Doran. We also counted numbers back and forward in French.

In health and wellbeing, in PE with Mrs Reid we did athletics including shotput and running.

In learning across the curriculum we cut and pasted the process of farm to fork of bread and strawberries to show the order starting from the farm to eating them.

P3/4 Blog WE 1.6.18

In literacy this week we did comprehension on our reading books every day. we had to read reading cards. We did show and tell.

In numeracy we learned that equivalent fractions are fractions that have the same value and we can show fractions on a number line. We learned that we would find fractions easier if we knew our times tables well.

In health and wellbeing, in PE we went on the pitch and we played some games and did relay races with batons. We walked a mile every day.

In learning across the curriculum we designed a straw poster to stop people throwing rubbish in the sea which could harm sea life. We watched a play called ‘The Secret Garden’. It was really good and funny. Then one of the pupils read the book to us.

P3/4 Blog WB 25.5.18

In literacy this week we did a reading comprehension on our story books. We answered questions in sentences in our own words to show that we understood our reading. We also did a farming comprehension. We researched the process of Farm to Fork and went onto the Tesco and Asda websites which had lots of information, videos and games.  We played a game to match up the produce with the animal or plant.

In numeracy we learned about the order of fractions and which were the biggest and smallest.  We did formal fractions in our numeracy jotters.

In health and wellbeing, in PE we played  basketball and walked a mile a day. We also had a race across the pitch and back and did relay races with batons.

In learning across the curriculum we wrote what we want to know and what we have learned so far about farming.  With Mrs Lawrie we used crayons to draw a picture of a sunflower in a pot based on a picture by Vincent Van Gogh. The P4’s went to committees and organised improvements and events for the school. The P3’s went to P2/3 and sang songs. One of the events organised was a Disney Dress down and it was fun.

In literacy this week we did a reading comprehension. We learned the French for animal names. We did show and tell.  And our evaluation for NYCOS.

In numeracy we learned equivalent fractions. We learned how to set it out.

In health and wellbeing we did football in PE. We did walk a mile.

In learning across the curriculum we made our farming folders.

Blog Week Beginning 9.4.18

Dear All

This week in literacy we did an imaginative story about farming. We learned that a homophone is a word that has different meanings or spellings, for example, park or sea and see. We learned the ‘ei’ and the ‘eigh’ sounds. We did a joined up handwriting assessment.  We choose a new library book.

In French we watched videos about French culture. We found out that Eiffel tower is in Paris. We found out that the French like different foods from us like baguettes, croissants, pain au chocolate, snails and frogs legs! The French weather is warmer than ours but they can have worse bad weather than us. . We learned about the French revolution. The French flag is blue, white and red which represent Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.

In numeracy we learned our times tables with fidget spinners, saying our tables until the fidget spinner stopped. We were learning the 2, 4, 10 and 100 times tables. We learned that for the 10 times table we put 1 zero at the end and 2 zeros for multiplying by 100. We learned that the 2 x table is the same as doubling.

In health and wellbeing we were learning about fitness. We ran, hopped and star jumped along the lines and we did, skipping, hula hooping and bouncing ball races. We played dodgeball.

In learning across the curriculum we started learning about farming. We learned how sheep gave birth. We learned about the commonwealth games. We learned that all the continents in the world start and end with the same vowel. We learned the claw action for ‘la’ in NYCOS and we learned about the lines and spaces in the stave. We also did a fun game to match our new song.

Dear All

We were very busy this week.

This week in literacy we learned to use speech marks, words with ‘tion’ and silent ‘k’ words.

In numeracy we practised telling the time.

In health and wellbeing on Tuesday we went to the sports centre for multi sports festival and got a certificate.

In learning across the curriculum on Thursday we went to the peel to learn about animal tracks and we also went to the church today.

Dear All

This week in literacy we filled in a comprehension sheet about Snoutlout from How to Train your Dragon. We read another chapter of how to train your dragon. We learned about tenses and ‘ue’ words.

In numeracy we did money and change.

In health and wellbeing we played Gaelic Football in PE and did walk a mile.

In learning across the curriculum we learned about Vikings and did music and NYCOS.
